My first blue egg layers were Americanas - and they are great birds that lay lots of blue/green eggs - so long as their parents came from a blue egg. None of mine were mean, not all of mine were lap birds though. You are on the right thread for those - they are called Easter Eggers on here - so you can show us what you get when you get them!
My pretty Olive out in the rain. She always looks so ANGRY, but she's very sweet...

She laid my avatar :)
Wow - that's a really green egg. I recognize that pattern, looks like a modified Light Sussex pattern. I have a few bantam hens with similar markings - but none of mine have the blue egg gene.. so their eggs are all tan

so I don't call them Easter Eggers.

I love EEs. They are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are getting! I got two EE chicks a few months back. One was a brown chipmunk looking one and one was dark black with a bright yellow underbelly and face. They both turned out almost identical...black and white. I have heard of people getting a yellow chick and it growing up black. And then, there are the eggs! It is always the fun of the surprise at what color the eggs will be! The suspense of watching them feather out and not knowing what they will look like is sooooo much fun! I love them! And with EEs you don't have to worry about "standards"! I love the variety and color difference you get from EEs. You can actually tell your chickens apart! Anyway, I know you want blue eggs. I did go to a breeder in TN and got some Wheaten Ameraucana hatching eggs. They are suppose to be one of the bluest egg layers out there. My chicks are only 11 days old now and not sure yet if they are male or female, but should be able to tell by next week. Be sure to post photos and tell us what you decided to get!

Hello! I have 5 EE's and I love them. Only one is old enough to lay, she lays a green egg. I'm super excited to see what the others have in-store for me :) My oldest is Rose. Then there is Elida, Spiderman, Copper and Coffee.

Elida is the lighter colored one, Spiderman is the darker one and the baby tucked into my shirt is Coffee.
