The EE braggers thread!!!

That looks like a boy to me. That red on the wings and the rather larger red comb for that age just looks like boy. It looks like it will be a very beautiful adult, though.

Ok Abby is older now, is this a hen?

Without getting a close up of those saddle feathers. The pointed feathers at the base of the tail. I say rooster. The comb is dark and it has red patches on the wings. Patchy feathers are a boy trait. Hens are uniformed in color. If they are more than 1 color they blend together smooth. I have a hen OE that is this ones colors. She is sitting on 12 eggs atm. But I will see if I can get a good picture of Ducky to compare too.

Not the same coloring of your chicken, but here is a couple of reference pics for comb size/shape/ color of EE male and female (known genders) at your chickens general age of 2 months.

Oreo my roo

The second girl is about a week or two older then your (I think) boy.

Yes by looking at your beautiful birds I'm thinking I have a boy, darn. That means I have to find one of my Roos a home. I guess I better think of a new name Abby won't do. Thanks for posting the pics and thanks everyone for your help. One more question are EE Roos normally on the aggression side or pretty good natured towards people?

EE's in general are well mannered.
My first EE Roo is only 3 months old, and a very good boy..we will see how he stays, LOL

Kassaundra - Do you know any of Oreo's back ground?
He looks like he could be out OB's brother, lol!

Depends on the roo. I had the meanest roo on the planet a Splash maran. He would wait till you had your back to him and run up you digging spurs first then beak to the back of your head. I kept one of his offpring roos. He was a sweetheart from the start. He would make soft noises at my feet till I picked him up to pet him and carry him around till cleaning feeding was done. Now he is the only roo over my 17 girls and 30 something babies. He still follows me around. But is is 13 lbs and I don't let him perch on me anymore too heavy. All my girls EE/OE/ 1 BO, 1SLcochin & 3BCM are calm and will eat out of your hand. The mom's will take the treats and drop them for the babies. The Roo. Mr.Friendly also drops the treats for his girls and babies. Life is much easier without a mean rooster. Now if I can just get enough girls for him so he will stop making my girls backsides bald. The more that go broody the more bald the rest get LOL. I have a new broody. I need to set eggs for but I already have 2 with babies and 1 sitting waiting on the 24h to hatchday. My egg selection is getting low. 2 OE's a BO and my BCM that lays very dark eggs are the broodys. The only eggs I'm collecting atm is blue/green and a few light olive to hatch. It could be worse I guess. Last year my BO and BCM raised 3 batches. It was a cold start this year so maybe only 2 batches. At least I'll have hens to sell come NOV ;-) Maybe. I do have room for 40 birds. Not that I want that many. I had 31 this spring and scaled back to 18 made room for my new hatch this year. As active as my roo is I may need 30 for him

All of my EE boys have been even tempered and respectful of me. Not people aggressive. Of course I never let them jump on me as young ones, and they still don't jump on me.

So here are some of my 10 wk olds.

the 4 with red patches on the wings are boys.

My broody is all puffed up but you can see she has the same colors as your boy without the red patches

a new girl

the white one is a girl. red patchy is a boy

Check out this guys colors. Blue feathers with red tips plus bared scattered around. He had a solid black head and blue tail. He and the other 4 boys need a home.
