The EE braggers thread!!!

I swear, EEs are some of the most beautiful chickens. It's funny that they're mutts. We got two new EE chicks this year, both supposed girls, named Turnip and Hortense. They're 11 weeks old already! Also: I love posting oodles of pictures.

The three two-year-old EEs with a couple of our older flock.

Spa time and chicken yoga.

Turnip loves to pose for the camera. She's such a weird color; I've never had an EE that looked like her before.

Hortense dead center, photobombed by Turnip with the weird face and Tony the Brahma looking grumpy as usual. Hortense is a normal looking EE, though. Funny that I picked a couple of chicks that look nothing like our older EEs. We've got a rainbow!

Pretty birds! Are you sure Turnip's a gal? I only ask cuz the comb seems a bit pink for 11 weeks, I think Turnip looks similar to a wheatan/blue wheatan* :) but the ROOS hold that coloring usually. Lol I love that EEs are so pretty and that they are each usually unique :)

Looking back at my EE...her comb was pretty red at 14 weeks. Red! Sorry :-/ still a newb with sexing lol

Haha well I'm hoping that Turnip is also a gal. I've been kind of worried about her comb. Hortense's is a lot paler, hardly anything at all really. I think she has a peacomb though, and Turnip looks like she has some weird offshoot of a single comb which may account for some of the difference.

Lol my EE has that weird comb too. I like it but I haven't identified it, a mixed comb, another unique trait..so that's a good sign! Cuz mine lays a HUGE light green egg and now her comb is pink, not red :)

I think it's a pullet.

Doesn't look like it has any male hackle or saddle feathers. My girls have had their combs go red then back to pink when they were young. The comb doesn't look big.

All of my hatchery EEs have weird combs. Not really pea combs like my ameraucana hens. I think the weird combs are from some of the crosses in the background of the birds. None of mine have gotten really large combs. Some look like they are more like a very small single comb, so I'd guess it's just mixed comb genetics.

ETA. You can lift the feathers on the neck and above the tail and see if there are any of the thin boy feathers coming in

Just jumping in here!... :) i just got myself a beautiful ee roo today! And i am wanting to breed him woth my marans, ee's, and rir. And am hoping for some colored eggs from the offspring. But is there a way to tell if he carries the blue egg gene. He has a (im pretty sure) pea comb. And his beard is blue. Willow colored legs. Idk if that helps at all. I will post up a pick of him tomorrow when i get to work (better service on my phone). Thanks!
