The EE braggers thread!!!

I think I agree...I suspect the EE/BO's are going to look more like BO's with a twist than an EE. It didn't seem right to outright call them EE's, that's why I asked. I googled South American Quecha chickens and I think I'm in solid EE territory with the roo and the hen. I'll have to post pics...this is the bragger's thread after all, and I think they are beautiful!

Good points! Felt like I was holding my breath until my EE laid her first egg...beautiful green egg. And I forgot to mention their legs...isn't leg color a factor? All the EE/BO's have BO leg color. The roo's legs are green. I'm not sure I have a good pic of his legs...darn. Hoping the EE chick with have dark grey/slate legs like the mom.

You are getting into sex linked territory with slate and white legs. I should check before I say more. I am going from memory and may be wrong.

Quote: So I did a little searching...and now I don't know what color her legs are!! And the bit I did read on leg color/sex link left me feeling it's a toss up. (Not sure that's an accurate conclusion, but chicken genes are complicated!!) As searching for info online often goes, I came across EE leg color and eventually was led back to BYC.

White soles, yellow soles, two skin layers contributing to pigmentation...Yikes! So I went out the the coop to check her feet, and they are definitely REALLY DIRTY!! The girls have been enjoying the warm weather today. The pics I saw of yellow feet were really obviously yellow, hers are not. In spite of the dirt, they look pink to me, and much to my BO's indignation over the foot checking procedure, their soles look pink, too. Which means they are white?

And I read conflicting info on here regarding slate legs, one post said slate legs required yellow skin, the other said skin had to be white. Sooo, I'm revising my description of her leg color to be "they appear to be grey, but might actually be a very grey looking green".

And I still hope the little EE chick has legs like hers. LOL

For sure!!!!! That is the holy grail of ee in my opinion. Very rare, only way to breed it true i think is to have a roo from the same hatch as the hen. The other holy grail is golden!!!!! Light brown is NOT the same, pink is pink in the middle and i suppose only an egg snob would know; customers would likely be thrilled with any "pink" eggs in with the blues. Adds to the novelty!

Well I could not locate the info. So here goes from memory. If you use EE roo over BO hens your pullets will have slate legs. There are 2 layers of skin. Your EE likely has green or willow legs. Slate and yellow skin layers = green. Yellow is recessive and will not show with 1 copy of the gene so slate leg pullets and cockerels also I believe. If you use a BO roo over EE hens you will get white leg pullets and slate leg cockerels. Slate may not show at hatch but will develop over time on all that will have slate. It has been years ago but buff ameraucana borrowed buff from BO.

This is so funny because I was asked by two older lady's to get a pink egg layer as they really would like to get some in with the green, white light tan, brown and blue egg's ..... But I do believe the older lady's are the only ones who ever ask me to get different color egg's but every time I get a different color everyone else winds up wanting them .......
