don't take these posts in a bad way, everyone here is very passionate when it comes to chickensI will check the vent tomorrow but if I recall roosters crow AND mate with hens & DO NOT lay eggs. But what do I know I'm just a newbie!
yes i've heard about these defects. it happens in humans also. I know about a woman who had both ovaries and testes. Some roosters take a while to crow and mate. I've had them take 8 months or more depending on breed. If there is another dominant male, they may never mate or crow.
I had a silkie that had the biggest comb and her head looked like a rooster. She had female body and laid about a handful of eggs a year witnessed in the act of pushing it out of the cloaca twice. Never broody. She also crowed with the rooster in the mornings. Telling me to get them scratch. She had a huge deformed ovary.
