The EE braggers thread!!!

I looked at your pictures and there is a huge difference! Left front is my PR egg, next to a large bantam egg.

Different lighting and view. Left to right, Bantie, PR, EE and mixed mystery breed. It's narrow enough that it wobbles in the large size carton.

wow that one looks alot like our Silver laced Wyandotte's egg. Almost pink most days.
Two of my gals might be coming to molt time in a few weeks, the other will be at molt age in the fall, I'm hoping to find a roo these are the most gentle birds in our Flock

Darina, would you post a picture of your EE bantam and perhaps something in the photo to compare with her size? She lays a really nice sized bantam egg and looks to be a store bought medium size. How old is she? I have a Cornish bantam hen that lays a 1.75 oz egg.

I was surprised too about the size when she first laid only a little smaller than my regular EEs!

I got her from a lady who said this pullet's parents were Buff Orpinington Roo and bantam hen with some EE (okay...?). She has blackish legs and feathered feet. This is the best pic I could get today.

Photographing her is a challenge because she is at the bottom of the pecking order, so she doesn't want to get too close to the others.

Another one for good measure. She is on the left, of course, you can probably tell that!

Edited to add: I don't know why my pictures look so tiny on here, but if you click on it, it should be a decent size.

Thank you, Darina. She's a nice looking girl. She appears to have some Silkie in her as well. I also appreciate you giving me some background on her.

I have an admiration for bantams as they can be more efficient and productive than most large fowl. Productive bantams are one of my weaknesses.

Oops, I forgot to tell you her age. The woman said that she hatched in July or August 2014, but when she started to lay, her first egg was really close to the size she lays now, so maybe she is not a pullet. She is quite productive- she lays maybe 4 or 5 days out of 7. The bottom of the egg is a perfect medium but it has a different slope to it, so it gets small quickly and has a bit of a pointy end. I love it! My other bantam lays an egg that looks like a cream-colored golf ball. It is almost round! I wish I had a scale for them, but I am too cheap and I didn't snatch up that ONE I saw at a thrift store.

If she is part Silkie, that would explain her foot color and feathering. The woman selling them had four chickens for sale and I went goo-goo eyes for the Australorp and SL Wyandotte from a distance. They were gorgeous...But when I got up to them, I could right away see that had a really bad infestation of Scaly Leg Mites. So, I disregarded those two and bought the ones with the best looking feet, which left me this little one and a Barred Rock. A chicken farmer I know told me, "Sometimes you choose the chicken, and the sometimes the chicken chooses for you." Now I know what he means. I still had to treat the two I got for mites, but they improved after several weeks of treatment. Boy, they hated that!

Darina, the best thing I have found for scaly leg mites is Ivomectin pour on. Just a few drops will kill the leg mites but it will take a little while for the scales to lay flat again. You also have to follow up to kill any eggs that hatch. Any sort of oil is so messy for a feather footed bird.

Hi all! I haven't posted on here recently, but I keep up with the thread on a regular basis. I have quite a few EE roos that I am looking for forever pet homes for. 8 are 14 weeks old & 4 are 5-6 weeks old. The mothers both give me 6 eggs a week & the fathers both have pea combs. Local only, I don't want to ship. I also have 3 silkie roos 14 weeks, 1 buff orpington roo 1 yr in June, & 2 lavender orpington roos 1 year in June & July. Please message me if interested. I'm in southeast PA. I'll get pictures when the snow melts.
