The EE braggers thread!!!

AND at 6 weeks I see no telltale red patches on the wings. In fact the pretty even patterning would have had me guessing pullet. Sneaky that one! Thanks for posting the pictures, nothing like a 2 week comparison to keep us on our toes. My girls just turned 5 weeks so I have a few more to go before I can be sure they ARE girls.
That's why I don't say a bird is definitely male or female before 8 weeks old, unless there are other 'rooster' traits present. They can change so much in such a short time.

Not all boys get the dark red, but most do. If it's a gold/red based colored bird then yes, a cockerel will always have the dark red shoulders. If it's a silver based color, then most of the time they will get what's called red leakage (dark red) on the shoulders. If the cockerel is from a silver (black and white) roo over a silver hen, then he may not get the red leakage, but will have solid white shoulders instead. I'd say at least 70% of cockerels do have the dark red shoulder patches.
This is what he looked like by 12 weeks old.

Eventually that dark rooster red spread to be his overall color. I suspect RIR genes at work. He is a beautiful, flaming red when the sun hits him just right.

EEs are a mix of different breeds so they will usually look different from one another. They come in all kinds of colors, shapes, sizes and neck lengths lol. I'll always have some of these in my flock cause a lot of the ones I've come across are really sweet and friendly. I have a 3 month old EE that I hatched this year that is already free ranging with the big girls and her own small flock & whenever I'll crouch down or sit on the ground she runs over and jumps up on my leg and lays down so I can pet her beard and comb. When she hatched she was 3x smaller than some of the other hatchlings and I thought she was not going to make it past the first week. I named her turtle cause when she was a couple of days old she fell on her back and was moving her feet screaming cause she couldn't turn back over. Since then we've been buddies.. they're so cute lol.

This is my turtle

The first chicken I fell in love with was actually an EE. She was also the first and only chicken I've lost to eggbound the day after she layed her first egg. I tried to save her but I was too late. Good learning experience for me though cause now I know how an eggbound chicken can behave so I always keep a close eye on the young point of lay girls.

This was my lil skepchick sitting at the computer with me

She loved posing for pics lol
