The EE braggers thread!!!

Great mix of colors! What girls are you waiting on?
I have one more EE that is the same age so I'm expecting her any day. I also have a 2yr old brahma and a black star ( i think she's 1-1/2 yrs old) that haven't ever laid for me. ( I got them in July)
I also have two heritage RIR's that are approx.20ish weeks old so hopefully they start soon but with winter coming on I don't know. the CCL's and SFH's are 17wks so they still got a bit. Then I have 4 game pullets (no idea as to the exact breed) that are supposedly about 4 months old but they are soooooo small I think they may be younger than what I was told.

Your now 20 week old RIRs WILL lay. Likely starting in a month or two and continuing through the winter. For whatever reason pullets don't seem to care about the lack of light their first winter. All bets are off for winter laying after their first adult moult the following year.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that. I am really looking forward to the RIR eggs! Any thoughts on why my 2nd brahma and my black star won't lay? I'm kinda at a loss. They haven't been molting or anything and are healthy birds but they just don't want to lay.

This is my black star (Hera). I actually wanted to breed her (not until spring) but I can't do that if she doesn't lay!
Any ideas would be appreciated. TIA

This may be a stupid question and I think I already know the answer but here goes.. I have a black Ameraucana Rooster imported from Holland by my friends. As luck would have it I got him for free when he turned out not to be a female. What I want to know is will he produce EE on any breed of hen he covers? (another Ameraucana excluded of course). The hens I have are: 1 Barred Rock, 1 Buckeye, 1 Cream Crested Leghorn, 2 Speckled Sussex, 2 Black Australorps, 2 Mutts (RIR Roo crossed with I suspect a Red Sex Link Hen), 4 Red Stars.

If he is carrying the blue egg gene, yes.

Aracauna or EE

Um, in the USA?? Neither! Araucana are tailless like your bird but they don't have muffs and beards, they have ear tufts. And GENERALLY speaking an EE would be expected to be tailed and have muffs and a beard. But of course there are no standards for EEs so if she carries the blue egg gene, she would be an EE. Since the egg is almost pink, I have NO idea! But congrats on the pink egg.

I used a PC ( brown egg) rooster on blue egg partridge EE I have pullets that are laying huge.

Here are the eggs I have them next to one of my CLB's eggs so you can compare it to the original blue.

The eggs weigh 84 and 77 grams. She is always laying eggs that size eggs.

And here is the bird, I think I have created a dual purpose EE. Most my EE are small birds and hardly worth processing, these are huge birds.

Very cool. Read up on the breeding boards for how to cross effectively, I've found them a good refresher of all my genetics classes, but way more fun! Generally an F1 cross will have "hybrid vigour" and subsequent generations will not, so you have to be very selective with your breeding choices and cull heavily if you want to create something true breeding. Keep us posted!

forgive my ignorance what is PC? I love that bird. As a matter of fact I had seen that picture last week and printed it to show the hubby. I told him "I want to make this bird" LOL

EE, definitely. She's very cute, but no Araucana; they've been selectively bred for specific characteristics as opposed to the EE which has no set standard. Pink eggs are indeed possible :) that's the beauty of EEs! You can get all sorts of surprises. If you want a blue layer EE with no surprises, find a breeder who has selected for that trait or a find a true Ameraucana, Araucana or Crested Cream Legbar.
