The EE braggers thread!!!

If she's running a mixed flock, there isn't any way of knowing which chicks have inherited the blue egg gene until they lay an egg. You might get a good idea from shared traits which ones are candidates but even a strong resemblance doesn't guarantee that particular gene was passed.
thank you debid. I guess the eggs will be good to eat if nothing else. They are alot of fun too

I'm looking for some gender guesses for these chicks. Unlike the usual requests I am hoping for a couple roosters but so far everyone is appearing feminine. These 3 are my best hopes... They were hatched on March 1st and are approx. 6.5 weeks old.

(chick 2 & 3 are 2nd and 3rd from the left in the back row and chick 1 is on the left in the front row)

Chick #1

Chick #1

Chick #2 (has an injury from getting to close to the grumpy older hens)

Chick #2

Chick #3

Chick #3

Chick #3 (patter is feminine except a few areas of darker red that seem to be developing on the wings but probably wishful thinking)

I am no expert on this but from watching my own chicks grow up and what I've learned here, I'm thinking pullet.

Thanks e72071. I wanted to post and get opinions because I feel like they are pullets but I'm also hoping so hard for a boy that I feel like I make up what I want to see sometimes haha.

I ordered 5 straight run EE's in hopes of getting at least 2 cockerels.....appears to be all pullets. Also got 5 straight run spitzhaubens in hopes of getting majority pullets and I have 1 lone pullet. I guess that is how it works haha

Haha. Isn't that always the way. When we ordered we ordered all pullets. A few died in transit and the company replaced them. 2 of the replacements turned out to cockerels. I was so bummed because 1 of them was my partridge Cochin and I was so excited for that bird. I think I've asked 3 times hoping something would change it to a pullet. So I know how ya feel. Lol

I am a first timer with 5 three week old chicks on the go. 2 EE's, 1 Buff orp , 1 Barred Rock and 1 silver Wyandotte. The EEs seem to be growing and feathering much faster than the others, the BO is in the middle but the BR and SLW are size and feather wise where the EEs were at 2 weeks old. Is this normal for them to grow faster than others?

Yes, my EEs are always the biggest and best feathered during the first couple weeks.

I was expecting a race between the EEs and the sexlink for feathering speed. And then the "Welsummer" left them all in the dust. She was starting her first molt at 5 weeks! I believe she's actually a Leghorn but need to see ears start to develop before I'm sure of it.

Barred Rock are a slow feathering breed . This helps create clear crisp barring . Barring on a fast growing feather is called cuckoo as it is more blurred . Leghorn have fast growing feathers . So there is a genetic trait for how fast the feathers grow .

This one is just SO odd. Now that the down is gone, the face is quite bare and she walks like a dinosaur with that long tail. 8 weeks.

Zooming the face... Wattles and minimal bearding?
