The EE braggers thread!!!

I'm confused. There is nothing new about the blue gene. If her blue was black, there would be nothing to look new. The blue gene has been roaming around for a long time outside of the fanciers' circles.

Punky - that's a beauty. If you put on some X-ray goggles, you can see the Buttercup ancestry right through her. (This is conjecture on my part, but hey why not conject?) I would not hesitate to start with her if she was what I had, but I would later cull white earlobes from the descendants.

Thanks for the kind words on my girl. She's just about two months shy of a year. One more trait I forgot to mention - she's a broody one. That was an important factor in my decision to select her as the founding mother.

Now to find some perfect roosters, preferably pre-1930s strain but I'll start with anything and just maintain another line from each one (these birds are my passion much more so than Marans and Reds and Rocks and such).

This would be my second choice as founding matriarch, based on what I have. She does have white earlobes, but that's the only "flaw" - if I may call it that for this purpose. She also lays a slightly too-blue egg as opposed to the other, which is a stoney-gray.

Blue was introduced to Ameraucanas like any other blue variety of breed from the Andalusian. . . (except Jersey Giants, it was created within the breed)

Still, both your girl and the next posted hen are gorgeous! Very true to the old strain type.

Can anyone make an educated guess as to how many eggs a year to expect from EE hens? OR is it hard to say due to their varied backgrounds? I'm very excited, I purchased 1 EE rooster and 15 EE pullets today!!!!

The one EE hen I got from a hatchery gives me 3 eggs a week, but that's only for 1 month per year.

Otherwise, they can vary, but I'd guess on average they give 4 per week.
