Oh, she's lovely! There is nothing worse than a predator taking our chickens. Makes so mad! I'm sorry you lost your girl, allabout; been there, hated it......

I'm sorry for your loss. The preds always seem to take the special ones.

Just wanted to get in on the thread! I have a mix of chickens, but my EE are by far the sweetest!

Here is Lucy: (my redhead :) )

Here is my new rooster. He is SO much nicer than the Dominique I traded him for!

I have one other hen, Falco, but she is always right under my feet so it is hard to get her picture. I'll try later today, she has a lot more black on her than Lucy and is a little bigger. She is my most handleable hen. These two hens are also my smartest/most athletic. I had to clip their wings to keep them in my 6ft fence. They were tearing up my neighbor's mulch, otherwise I would love to let them roam about the property.

We have three acres of field and forest, and they run over to the neighbor's house! Go figure.

Here's the newest EE to our crew. This is Lola, looking up to say goodmorning! She is by far my sweetest baby. She thinks I'm her roo (because I protected her when she tried to eat when she first came here & some of the other girls were trying to keep her from the feeder). I got attached to this one with a quickness, and even more so because she lays the PRETTIEST blue eggs!

Who couldn't love a face like that?? She follows me around the yard like a puppy. If I go outside, she'll come running out to me from clear across the yard, get in front of me, and squat. I figure she does that because she thinks I'm her roo... and the place where she lived before, she was a roo's favorite & was missing a buncha feathers when we first got her.

Have you bred these to determine if they produce blue layers or green?

Chipmunk carries at least one or two blue egg genes, all his daughters lay green or blue. Red is Chipmunk's son so most likely he also carries at least one blue egg gene.

What do you call the coloration on his chest (the black/blue mixed with white) ?

I don't know if it actual has a name but on the rare occasion I say anything about it I call it something like black and white (and I think a little bit of brown) speckled.
