Have to say i have been a lurker on here for a while - really considering adding an EE to my flock - but a friend who had them at one point was tryig to talk me out of it saying they are flighty and not so friendly etc- was this just his birds/strain - or are they known for those attributes.
Thanks!

Jest depends on the birds, mine came from Murray McMurray via Murdochs farm store, and I got 6 of the friendliest, pretty hens! I have had hateful E.E. before and they almost wrecked for the others! Just gotta find friendly mama hens I guess!

My 3 8-wk. old EE from MPC (via Meyers, I believe) are definitely more active than my first 4 hens. i wouldn't say aggressive. just full of energy and curiosity. they are very friendly. i also think once they reach POL they calm down some.

Mine are from Meyer, the are beautiful, curious, and friendly. Everytime I go anywhere near their run they come running to greet me and follow me like a pack of puppies (I know it is prob. for the potential treat). When I go out and sit with them they take turns sitting in my lap or shoulder "telling" me about their day. They do like to run and that is hilllarious!!!!!!! They will run and jump and do a short flight thing, but we have a low fence 5' and none have flown over although I know they could. They are around 16 wks now, and we hand raised them. Even our one boy (a mistake) is still very friendly and hasn't been human agressive at all (but he is still pretty young) I would say EE's are the bomb!!!!!

My 2 EE's are the easiest to handle, when I pick them up they don't try to get away or try to flap their wings, nothing. They are my most calm. All my flock will fly when let out of the coup out into the yard, they have to get to their favorite place in the yard. The most flighty of my bunch is the RIR's though. My SLW's & GLW peck my hands if we try to pet them & try to flap their wings but my EE's have never tried to peck.

Remember EE's are a mix so it really depends on what's in the breeding that might make your friend's birds the way they are. We also handled our chicks alot but that didn't help with the SLW's or GLW of ours.

2 of my 3 EE's seem to be the most rambunctious of my 12 6-week old chicks, all from Ideal via my local feed store. They are also the largest, and they love dive bombing the masses when they are eating, lol. One is very friendly and loves to be held, the other, not so much, but is not scared. The largest one also has the pinkest comb of all 12, and very stout legs, so I'm worried a bit. She (I hope) has even been spotted grabbing the back of the neck of other chicks a few times. I'm hoping she's a pullet, since (s)he has beautiful coloring. Started out looking like a chipmunk, but has turned into mostly white with brown spots, makes me think of an eagle. I really enjoy the EEs' multiple colors.
