Wanted to try out my new 14 mp camera so wanted to post a pic of my EE roo "Rooster Mac 2nd" and the two surviveing hens from last winter's 'coon massacre. He is a carbon copy of my old roo who was 7 yrs.+ old when the 'coons got him and a dozen hens and several cockerals in just one night! The black hen is a EE/ Black Austrolop cross olive egger. I came that close to loseing many years of this bloodline but thankfully I raised some nice hens and a couple of cockerals this summer to carry on.

Wow, lucky save. I'm in constant fear of just such a massacre so I always have eggs either in the 'bator or ready to go in if need be...but I don't yet have the stock I'd need to preserve all my breeds.

I am BRAND NEW to chickens. My husband lived on a farm, and will help withe coop, etc, but I am kind of on my own! I have 24 chicks, hatched 12/15/10. 15 pullets of 6 different breeds and 11 unidentified roosters that will not be with us long..... Any advice is appreciated! I have 4 EEs, 2 of which were easy to spot on Day 1, but I finally figured out the other 2 by process of elimination. Do all EEs have greenish feet? My 2 "most likely" EEs are white, and one is white/cream. Does that sound right?


Hmmm...guess I can't post pics as a new member yet.

Huh. I wish I could show you my chickens!!

I don't know what the number of posts is, but as soon as you cross that thresh hold it will let you post pics. EE's have either green or slate legs, and puffy cheeks (muff and beards) When mine were small you could still see it, but it is getting a lot more pronounced as they get bigger. I do have one girl that is cleaned faced. Yes, I have two white and one apricot and white, and have seen other's pics w/ those colors. If you page back through this thread you will see lots of pics.​

Welcome here where EE's are loved and appreciated! Looks to be one happy little boy with his chick. As Kassaundra pointed out the green or slate legs are the most desirable leg color altho I believe I have had some solid white ones with pink colored legs. Most do have muffs and beards but again I have had some that were cleanfaced but still laid blue eggs. Nice chicks you have there, should give you a great start on a variety of colors.
