The EE braggers thread!!!

Don't know about all of them but I have had some crop-up over the years that were clean-faced and still layed blue eggs. The presence of a peacomb is the major factor in determining the production of blue colored eggs ( that is the main consensus)

So I haven't found chickens that are mutts like me. My chickens are still from much better bloodlines than I am.

Oh well at least I know even my ancestors believed in diversity.

There were landraces of chickens in S. America and some layed blue/green eggs; none have been kept pure and its doubtful the exact physical description of the landrace that layed the blue/green is even known.

Punnet studied the genetics of the blue egg many years ago. This research article of his may be an interesting read for some, as it mentions the appearance of those birds [back before even I was born

Great article! That's the article that was referred to on many of the sites I was researching but I couldn't seem to find the article itself! Thank you for the link!
They are still not nearly as much mutt as I am.

I don't want to cause another argument but I have a couple of EEs with a pea comb that lay a tan colored egg. But by far most of my EEs lay a variety of green eggs.

SunnyD, Given some thought most of us are correctly indentified as "mutts", some are just more comfortable with admitting the fact! My father's dad came here from Croatia and married a country girl from La. whose dad was one-half Native American, so where does that leave me in the realm of purebreds? LOL As for SA, never have been there alto at one time I worked in Brazil and the southern tip of Chile. Wish now that I had paid a little more attention to the chickens in that part of the world! Do remember seeing chickens but was more interested in the rea's(sp?) the large flightless birds of the southern part of SA. The only scary thing about SA is sometimes the instability of the governments down there tends to lead to unrest in some areas...

I am totally smitten with the idea and have been studying everything I can get my hands on! They are super sweet people and very accepted of "Gringos" (not an insulting term there) they are also very chicken friendly! Even in the city you wake up to the sound of roosters. At least that's what I've been hearing.

I'm 64 and live on my VA compensation, but I've thought or tried to convince family on Thailand as an alternate location to live. We only have one son and he is married to a Thai lady, often referred to in my posts as DIL and the chicken person in my son's household. If chickens are the topic of discussion, it is usually between her and I. She even butchers her own.

TALK about instability in governments "Thailand" wow ! But surely life would be very interesting in both the far east and SA.

I've heard great things about retirement in Thailand as well! Yes, the expense of living in this country was the huge motivator for us to start looking elsewhere for a more affordable retirement solution. I look at how my parents are struggling financially with rising costs and we help them out financially! I don't think we can count on help from our kids since they still need help from us now and then and the cost of living in the Bay Area is not getting any cheaper or any easier for them. If we retired in Ecuador we could live well and still have money left to travel on! A luxury we could not afford if we stayed here.

Yes that's true. Ecuador has had a stable government for awhile now but definitely not the kind of stability we have here. They do pride themselves on being a peaceful people though and strive to resolve issues without violence. One lady said that she traveled through a "riot" without ever knowing it. When a friend asked how she made it through the turmoil she laughed and said "Oh is that what folks were doing out in the street banging on pots? I thought their soccer team had won." The Natives really govern Ecuador. If they do not like what the government does they just block the roads til the government changes it's policies. There is something very admirable about that to me. I like that the people still have most of the influence in that country and don't really feel that we have that much of a say about our own country's policies. Oops better stop before I start a political discussion. Though I find politics facsinating I'm sure it would not be a good idea here.

Just thought I'd add that I don't want anyone to think that I don't love the U.S., I just can't figure out how to afford to retire here without having to really struggle with day to day expenses. I can actually see my grandkids more if we retire there than I see them now due to difficult driving conditions over a snowy mountain pass.

It's only a 5 hour flight to see them in California and plane tickets are half off for seniors (if your trip originates in Ecuador)!
