Never knew how until I read that sticky yesterday. Right now I'm in the process of collecting eggs for the incubator. I did stick four pullet eggs in it and have it set up and running. When I get enough eggs for it, in a few days, I'll pull those four eggs out and check them. Mean while, when I eat some eggs I'll crack them in a bowl first and look for the halo. I admit, even though I've had chickens and been around them most of my life, I've never had any experience with hatching them. We always bought hatchery chicks and missed out on all this fun.

My candler came yesterday and those eggs I had in it to test showed something growing inside, but since they were just test eggs I cracked them and fed them to my pig,

Anyway, I got the Hova-Bator loaded up just a bit ago and have 36 eggs in it. Now comes the wait. Anyway, I got 10 eggs from my DIL which are Jersey Black Giants and the other 26 eggs are all mine. Most are EE eggs and there are three from a cross breed hen looks like a GLW and 3 are from golden comets. My rooster is a Araucana, so I'm hoping for some blue egg layers out of the batch, assuming any of them are pullets.

Thanks jeremy, and good luck! [My neighbor came and looked at them, and bought 5 doz hatching eggs last week to eventually replace his red sex-links, plus another 2 and 1/2 doz Cornish/Ameraucana eggs for their hopefully thicker bodies and super tight pea combs.]

Probably not as dark as the people on the OE thread are shooting for, but my best laying EE produces 6, extra large per week that to me are olive green anyway; so..........................
If an EE lays a blue or green egg, at least a 50% average of her female chicks will also [the males will carry the gene at the same ratio], even when crossed to a non-blue egg breed.

So much fun! I can't wait until we're getting eggs again... LOL, I always feel crummy when I have to buy some.

Should my BO pullet (hatched around Halloween) be laying soon? She's starting to look less like a pullet and more like an actual chicken... and her comb/wattles are getting redder.
