The EE braggers thread!!!

My Tucker is only 11 lbs too, but quite the hunter, even before the chickens he regularly hunted and killed all kinds of rodentia. Our chickens are not free range, they will be in a rotating fenced garden area, and now we added another fence so the dogs have half the yard and the garden/chickens have the other half. Now the dogs can't get near the actual chicken run/garden b/c of the second fence. He is a very sensitive dog about displeasing me so when I am there he is a perfect gentlemen, it is when I am not that is the problem. I work w/ him most every day but seperation is going to be the only solution. I would consider a shock collar reluctantly, but would probably string a hot wire instead if this doesn't work.

Okay, since it is a braggers thread, I hope you won't mind my showing a few more pictures of my chickies! They are one week old today, so I made them stand all stand for portraits. They weren't all that happy with me; you'll see that some are in mid-complaint in their pictures, and none look too pleased.

Still, I think they're pretty cute!

I was also thinking maybe a hot wire. It's so hard when all the babies don't get along regardless of their species! Mine has yet to catch anything other than one adolescent chicken. She tries to get squirrels but hasn't yet. If one of the cats leave a carcass anywhere, her nose leads her to it and then it's a tug of war.

I'm sure with the new batch, we're gonna have to be on guard, scary rooster or not. Mia (my doxy mix) doesn't care if I'm upset and screaming....my Terrier, however, is and won't do anything that makes me upset. Last year I would sit on the ground with the chickens and Mia, which was very interesting. She would just quiver, remembering the taste of chicken, I'm sure! I'd thump her and tell her NO until she would back off.

With these peeps, she almost snatched one out of my cupped hands while I was sitting on the couch admiring it. Really took me by surprise, and if its little head wasn't all the way in my hand, it would have been gone.

We'll be in protection mode with our new EE's and Ameraucana's. Sounds like your double fencing is pretty secure. Hopefully you can get on with planting!

CUTE Baby Pics !
I use Electric Poultry Netting from Premier One Company. It works Great to keep chickens in and predators out. I also use the same fencing for my miniature goats.
