The EE braggers thread!!!

If they are freeranging, they might have a hidden nest(if they are laying) maybe you could watch them for a day and see if they slink off to lay under something.

I have watched them and havent seen any where except under one of the trees but I checked no eggs! Their combs are still light pink only 1 of them her comb is starting to turn bright red and she has been acting weird. She SAT in my lap for the first time ever!!! I was so excited!! Shes the only one thats done that so far

Waiting for the first eggs is difficult. I think that they are a little young yet. BTW every time you pick their eggs from the box is is a trill. I just love collecting the eggs and looking at the differences.

Lol I have never owned chickens before so I dont know what to expect.. Never seen a chicken lay or touched a freshly laid egg and Im getting really impatient to collect my first egg.. But Im not sure.. I have a roo in with my hens so I might just let them sit on the first ones see if they hatch. Go out there and mark the date they were laid and wait the 8-10 days candle it see if they are fertile. If not than I dont know lol

I'm new too, and twice now I've been lucky enough to catch a couple in the act of laying, and the resulting egg is still soooo warm. It's very exciting. Today when I collected my eggs, one of them still had a little heat, so I knew it had just been laid.
When I went in and saw the FIRST egg, it was almost surreal. It was so perfect, and beautiful, and such a surprise!

You have a lot of exciting stuff ahead!!

If she hatched from a brown egg I'd venture to say there is 0% chance she would lay a blue egg. She's really cool looking though!

Thanks!

And now for something really different............

She whistles with a little nose flute thing. Her mom honks. Neither of them say anything chicken-y. No Bucka buck, no cackle. But they are sweet and sociable. Mom is a reliable egglayer in her 3rd year! Good chickens with funny noises coming out of them. Is this an EE trait?
