The EE braggers thread!!!

Gifa, that is an amazing pictorial, thanks! so, the lighter the better, but no guarantees, huh.
Those are colored like my gold sexlinks. I've seen some all white ones, but not showing the progression like that. I know from being a chicken mom already, that it doesn't matter what color they are, I will love them just the same! You are all so nice to repond to my question, I will keep following this thread, even though no EEs yet. I live in central AZ, up in the mountains by Prescott. My daughter and I are loving our 5 hens (2 barred rocks, 2 GSLs, and a blue Andalusion- so light brown, dark brown and white eggs), but hope to add a couple new chicks each spring, and EEs are our next choice. Jenni:D

Thanks, I am glad it is helpful. I didn't see anyone doing progressions like it anywhere and am all about documentation. My girls are only 14 weeks old, and I know they will continue to change over the next 8 months or so of their first year... so I am planning to continue following their progress. Their next scheduled update is in 2 weeks when they are 4 months old. I'll catch them again when they are 6 months and again at a year.

Oppossum can carry rabies. We had one about 6 years ago and had to turn it into the local vet. It bit my dog. As for the skunk you can catch it in a live trap without it spraying. They will still stink since it is a musk. You can walk up to them and shoot them as long as you are slow and quietly. They only spray when scared or mad.

congratulations!

We've had an egg for the last 3 days including today...they kinda snuck up on us, thought i had more time to finish the Chicken Shack. Last two days they were in the lil coop till afternoon then let out to free range, found em in the coop safe and sound. This mornin I let em out earlier, well lemme tell you Chooks are like Teenagers. If ya keep em cooped up they tend to be a bit productive...but if ya let em run wild they "bawk" their responsibilities!! Buuuuut I discovered she didn't let us down... I had to do some painting for the Chicken Shack and had the door open and I eventually found one in the Booda Dome I've got in there!!! Haaa.....

If I remember correctly, (of course it could be "old wives tale") it the skunk cannot get it's tail up, it cannot spray.  On "Dirty Jobs", I think Mike Rowe put a tarp over the cage before transporting the skunks.  I think I would use an old tarp to make sure I didn't get skunk smell on me.

And for rabies, I know squirrels and mice are too small to have rabies (if they are bit by another rabid animal, and manage to escape being eaten, they usually die of their wounds before rabies has time to run thru their system.,  If rabies should be acquired by the the small critter, the critter dies quickly and doesn't usually have time to infect anything else.  (I learned this last summer when son and I were bit by a squirrel and did not have to get rabies vaccines).  I don't know what size the animal has to be to have rabies linger in them enough to allow them to infect other animals.  If cats are big enough, I'd think an opossum would be big enough.

I work at a state park that has a possum program and they do not get rabies.

Any mammal can get rabies. However, the chance of rabies in an opossum is EXTREMELY RARE. This may have something to do with the opossum’s low body temperature (94-97º F) making it difficult for the virus to survive in an opossum’s body.

Hello, all you EE lovers- 1st time poster here on this thread. I'm looking to add a couple EEs to my flock next, but really want them to be mostly white/light feathered. Does anyone have pix of what color day-old chicks to look for to get white or mostly white adult? I would assume yellow, but wasn't sure if EEs were different? If I'm picking from a group of chicks, I just want to have the best odds I can. Thanks- Jenni

Yes... yellow chicks will give you white birds usually. Wheatens hatch yellow/white and turn later to buff colors. I have some pics of my Super Blue Egg Layers in my siggy... they are all white with black leakage. They hatch yellow with black spots on most.
