The EE braggers thread!!!

I love how upright Pepper stands and how high her tail is. Very pretty.

I know! It's like she's saying...

"I know I am standing in the back, and I am not as contrasty as my friend Salt here... but make no mistake... this photo is all about MEEEEEEEE!"

Got this roo a couple weeks ago for my flock of 7 EE hens.

So because EE's are "muts" (for lack of a better term) Is selective breeding effective?

When breeding what do you guys look for?

Hahaha...yes, Salt like to hog the camera but Pepper has learned how to shine even in the background. Both Salt and Pepper were impulse purchases from the local feed store but have turned out to be great girls.

It would be fun to have little baby Peppers! I have never tried to breed chickens. I currently live in the city so having a rooster is not allowed.

That's a great question, and I'm sure there are folks who know better than I do. I think you have to make sure the desired traits you want to keep (ie comb type, beards, color, egg color) are present in your breeding stock to start. But then it's just like any breeding program. It takes many generations and careful record keeping to produce your goal. Remember, all breeds of modern domestic chickens started out as something else and are the result selective breeding.

Your roo is very handsome!

Are you going for the blue color? I think overall health, and egg color and productivity are important too. Good luck and keep us posted!
