The EE braggers thread!!!

I know little about chickens, I am learning but for some reason I thought that an EE that laid green eggs had to have green legs? Why I thought that I do not know.

I have some EE's and I also "thought" I had 2 full Black Aussies but as they matured they looked identical except one has the big tall standing comb, the other has a short squiggly comb, both have the green sheen to their feathers and both have black legs. The one with the tall standing comb lays a nice brown egg. I started noticing that the other ones comb was getting red so I knew she would start laying soon also. Fast forward to a few days ago......I started getting a green egg. I posted pics of it on page 970 of this thread. I assumed that one of my EE's started laying but I couldn't catch her on the nest so I wasn't sure which, that is until this morning..... this morning I found the almost full BA on the nest. She lays a green egg? Does this sound right?

can you post a picture of your black chickens? Sounds like they may be Olive eggers, a dark brown/blue egg cross. Do they have beards?

Are there any hatcheries in New England or close to, that sell sexed Olive eggers? I know they are mixed breeds so not sure if a hatchery would carry them.

I have mostly bantams (10 of which are roosters) So I can't breed olive eggers myself. I would like to aquire some Marans and Olive eggers though to add color to my sale eggs.

I'd look on craig's list... but i would like sexed birds that are merek's vaccianated.

No beards, one is definitely a full BA, this first one, MollyB is the BA imposter with a EE comb. She looks just like the other one except that darn comb. So I am shocked to find that she is laying the green egg, UNLESS she is isn't the one but she was laying in the nest this morning and the green egg is the only one I got today.

So cute!! Sadly Flo's getting bullied a bit... She's the friendliest chicken and follows us around, but one of our more aggressive chickens has pulled a bunch of feathers from her side and left her tailed frazzled.

Some times older animals come for attention when they are nearing the end of life's journey. But she does look good, old noodle comb !

I have heard of putting green or blue food coloring on the vent to determine who lays what. I've never done it but I plan on doing it in the future.
