The EE braggers thread!!!

26 weeks and 3 days old.
One of my young Easter Egger-Naked Neck crosses laid her first egg 3-17-2013 @ the above age.

That's the thing with roosters -- they don't lay eggs so there is no way of knowing what egg genes your guy carries. It's more complex than this but for the sake of simplicity... We know the hens carry brown so that puts blue out of the running. If your boy is pure for blue, you'd get 100% green layers. If he's carrying a blue and a brown, you'd get 50/50 green/brown. If he missed the blue gene, all of his offspring would lay brown.
That helps a lot! I think I am going to give it a try and see what happens... at the very least I will get some good barnyard chicks that should be good layers. I only have one Marans pair that I want to breed, so I might as well go ahead and use the cross eggs to fill up the incubator. I have decided I love hatching and raising babies!
I purchased some Black Copper Marans and Blue Wheaten Amerucana hatching eggs and now have chicks so next year I will be incubating those eggs....

I couldn't resist taking a picture of my girls this morning. I had to feed before it was light outside and they decided they would rather sleep in a little bit longer.

Are thy pretty decent layers?????? I'm trying to find the best layers.ive been told warrens are good layers and so are friesians. ;/
They are too young to lay yet. The Columbian Wyandotte x Buff Orpington should be a very good layer. The other two won't be prolific layers . I'm guessing they will average 200-250 eggs a year.
