Yes. And crossed to a dark brown egg layer (your Welsummer boy) you make Olive Eggers (darker green). You can use any breed that has the blue egg gene to make Easter Eggers, and some don't even have the blue egg gene but they are still called Easter Eggers. Just think - colored eggs and not brown or white - that's an EE.

Usually they also have dark legs and beards/muffs - but that isn't necessary either. Pea combs too - but with the Isbar they don't need that either...

With a welsummer you will get dark olive eggs. Yes cross breeding ameraucanas wil give you EEs. If you use the welsummer on the ameraucanas you will get olive eggers also. Oliver eggers are like a subgroup of EE.

I had a batch of chicks hatch out in June. One of the Cockerels has white ear lobs and yellow legs. I'm going to surmise that he came from Brown Leghorn hen. Has a very full beared and pea comb. Should I assume he will throw white egg genes? His dad was one of my EE roos. I'm trying to decide who to keep and who to eat... I also wound up with 2 Welsumer cockerels glad to see I can use them to get olive eggers. I already have a buyer for one of them so I will keep the other.

Yes your cockerel out of the leghorn will carry white egg genes from his mother and perhaps blue from his dad.

He carries the possibility of both blue or white, of the charactaritics you mentioned pea comb is most significant to egg color, not 100% but more likely blue egg genes.

When do EEs start to lay?

I have pullets that are 7 months old and 9 months old and neither are laying yet. I feed 22% layer and expect to start getting eggs as soon as the daylight hours pick up. The only thing I have laying now is Silkies who hatched in February.


3 of the girls I think they are EExEE all have dark legs and pea combs. There is one more solid blue. The one in the front has a lot of blue on her wings and tail.

Suspected EExLeghorn his comb has gotten larger and more red. No Crowing yet, but he is low on the totem pole of roos.


This one still has a small comb and light colored face. I wish it was a pullet to replace my black and white hen I lost. Unfortunately it is getting pointy hackle and saddle feathers. Going to be beautiful when grown, but I don't need anymore roos.

Dolly... RIP... She disappeared with out a trace.

Some of the chicks came from Australourps of which one was the broody. She was a wonderful Mama and stayed with them until they were at least 6 months old and I made them move into the barn with the LF flock.

When do EEs start to lay?

Mine didn't lay till 27 and 28wks, but very nice green lg eggs when they did

This one I bought at the feed store. It is solid white. ,,,I had her in brooder and bantam coop while she was growing. She is best friends with a Seabright and thinks she is just as small.

I have an EE identical to her. She is so white and pretty. I got her from a friend about 2 mos ago, but suddenly she has been attacking 1 of my RIR's real bad and the other girls off n on. I have taken her out and put her in the garage and with it being so cold, I put her back in the coop at night. As soon as i open the poop door in the morning and they come out, she satrts goin after everyone again. She just started laying 2wks ago, so I don't want to cull her.
