The EE braggers thread!!!

yeah but you can breed any EE you want if you have an araucana or ameraucana problem with an EE is, it wont breed true, they may not cross over to its young feather or egg colour
i liked the way our orpaucana turned out, rumpless muffs and beard and white, im hoping it will remain this way as its only 4 weeks old and still feathering,
its an araucana buff orpington hen cross, the orpington chicks ive seen at 3 weeks have buff feathers

Good to know! Her mom looked a lot like her, can't remember what the roo looked like... I was just so happy to finally be getting chickens, lol! I researched, planned, built, gardened and built some more to have these little gals poopin' all over my back yard, lol! :-D Quite frankly, I am just thrilled that they are here and marvel at their emerging personalities! The proprietor added this particular EE because she showed leadership qualities (she fussed at being held on her back). I am PRETTY sure she's on the bottom of the pecking order at the moment and she still doesn't like being held, lol! (although she is daining to not run QUITE so fiercely if I need to pick her up... I've got the good treats!) She is gentle and soft-spoken in nature. My BPR is on the other hand TOTALLY emerging as the leader of the flock. I adore all 3 of them!

Your orpaucana sounds beautiful!

I haven't seen many EEs with a crest. I know its common in some other "breeds" but not usually EEs. What made you come to this conclusion?
i didnt, i asked if the araucana was bred with a crested bird to make the ameraucana
since no 1 really knows and all the scam birds being sold, i thought the image i saw of an ameraucana had what you could say was a cap or thicker feathering on its head,
like an ee having muffs instead of tufts,

The U.K., Australia, and European Araucana are crested. They are derived from a slightly different gene pool than the Ameraucana, American Araucana, and Easter Eggers.
we british have 2 araucana, one is tufted rumpless ie the original bird and most likely imported
the other is reported to have come from shipwrecked birds (used for fresh meat and eggs) breeding with native scottish breeds giving the tailed muffed and bearded version with a slight crest

the french araucana is not crested but seems to come with tufts or muffs

our 26 day old "french" rumpless orpaucana EE lol

with 3 half sibling araucanas and foster mum, looks like a pea comb

Here's my two ameraucana (easter eggers). Cant blame the hatcherys. I wouldn't want to change their name either. sounds wierd and they're just trying to make money. cluade my rooster dust bathing

I can and DO blame the hatcheries!!!!!! "Trying to make money" with mislabeled goods is bad business and unethical.

lol, right? I was secretly hoping if I named her Olive then the eggs would follow, haha JK. I have no idea about her parents, she came from a local feed store that told me she was an americauna. More than likely she will lay blue or tan (rats!) ... i'm still holding some hope though.....

More than likely she will lay blue or green. Less likely olive (actually pretty unlikely unless specifically bred for it) or shades of brown.

This is Stella.
In March we picked up 5 EE, 5 RIR, and 5 BR at the local feed store. My brother in law raised them in his brooder because we had 20 RedSexLinks chicks in our brooder and no extra room. He didn't love them the right way so they got no handling as babies. Thus when they got old enough to come here, they weren't very people friendly. They didn't want to be petted or even approached unless you had food in your hand. Suddenly last Friday Stella came up on the back porch and sat down with me to read the news and watch me drink coffee. She is even letting our 4 year old grandson pet her. I was glad she had gotten friendlier but confused. Sunday afternoon she gifted us with her first jumbo green egg! My wife is so excited! Stella is now her favorite hen and was invited up on the porch for her own bowl of peas last night. I wonder if the other hens are calling her "mama's girl" now.
