Sorry for the semantic confusion. DD1 is what I term an "emotional vegetarian" as opposed to those who just think a vegetarian diet is more healthy.
- She won't eat anything that has an animal 'body part' in it, not even gelatin even though no animals are killed for the purpose of harvesting gelatin.
- She wouldn't eat a fertilized egg (thus no rooster and no 'replace from within') because it COULD have been incubated and become a chicken.
- We can't have milk animals because the milk giver has to get pregnant every year and statistically speaking, 50% of the offspring will be male. We all know what that means for the vast majority of young males in the agricultural world.
- She couldn't emotionally handle us raising animals for others in the family to eat.
- She couldn't emotionally handle us raising animals that someone she doesn't even know would eat.
She manages to ignore the issue of getting sexed pullets from the hatchery. I am 99.99999% certain she knows what happens to most of the male chicks.
I bought 3 chicks the first of April. My Delaware started laying in September. My Cochin in October, and my EE still hasn't started.Am I just over anxious? I'm looking forward to the colored eggs.![]()
