its a gathering for all of us okies on the thread to meet up together in the spring , we eat, talk and visit , sell, trade , swap, birds , have a raffle , and also have an auction , its great time for the entire family,, this past spring was my first time and it was great and i dont do well with alot of new people , but it was comforting , it was more like a family reunion than being around a bunch of strangers everyone is so nice and welcoming , and boy let me tell ya , us okies sure can cook lol

Here is Iris. I think she is 6 or 7 months old. She is still not laying. What gives? I can't wait to see what kind of egg we get. Do you think she is that old? She is totally crazy. She runs around the yard like a looney sometimes. All zigzagging and flapping. (is that normal?) Then she calms down and acts like a chicken again. Then she goes all flappy again. Silly chicken. She doesn't love for us to hold her. We got her when she was the same size as my Barred Rock who was about 3 or 4 months old at the time - so we thought they were similar ages. The BR started laying last month. But...nothing from Iris. She is pretty, though. totally crazy - but pretty.

She's super pretty! On my computer screen her comb is nice and red, so hopefully she's finally pumping out those egg laying hormones for you. Are you sure she isn't hiding her eggs? Especially when they first begin to lay, my easter eggers have a tendency to search out odd spaces nowhere near the nesting boxes. Good luck!

Erindubb...I wouldn't worry at all about the flitting and flapping thing. All my EEs do it. Cracks me up. They are so funny. Totally reminds me of young kittens where they all of a sudden get a hair and off they run till they forget why (and where) they're running. And she is so pretty. I really want some more variety in my EEs next spring. I guess everyone is getting the different colors mostly from MPC, huh? Any other places that interesting colors are coming from?

I impulse grabbed a chick from a box that had come from Dunlap hatchery because I had never seen chicks quite that color before and was curious. Now Dixie has grown up and I think she is one of my prettiest birds. I posted a pick somewhere on this thread a while ago. I'll have to go find it and let you know the page number. Her egg color isn't the greatest I've ever seen but she's a good layer and a very hearty gal. There were a number of chicks in the box colored like her, so I suspect it's a pretty common variety from Dunlap.
