Amber my little EE gave me her first eggs today. It is a pale olive. I am hoping that the size increases because her mother was a red sexlink who layed large eggs.

Here is a picture of her father. Large boy with pea comb, slate legs and amber eyes. I no long have either of the parents due to predators :

Thanks Steve, yes I am so happy to see that little pullet egg

It was at my foot as I entered the run ha ha. Maybe the other will be in the nesting box.

I put pingpong balls in the nest boxes to lure my E.E. girls into laying there.

It worked!

(of course, us E.E. owners KNOW that our chickens are smarter than "purebred chickens")!

(the above remark is entirely said in jest and is not meant to offend owners of pure-bred chickens, despite what they say about our "mutts")

I have been breeding my on line of EE's for years now and almost always they have green legs with an occasional slate leg being hatched. Until BYC I didn't realize that people were "creating" EE's by crossing various breeds. Back when I started raising EE's they were erroneously labeled Araucana's because they layed blue eggs. Then somewhere along the line someone came up with "Ameracana's". It can all get somewhat confusing....

That was what I was wondering....those birds are lovely. Would they still be considered EEs if they have the traits, or are those birds now considered crossbreeds?

What color were the EEs that you mixed with the BOs? I have two that are I guess Partridge and one that is mostly white with a little bit of gray. Mine are the hens, my BO is the roo. They are also very skittish around my roo and I'm not sure their eggs are fertile, I never see him ......ahem.......you know. I guess I could incubate a few and just see.

well, I got a pic today of my EE roo Marbles, he is the daddy to all the EE babies I posted back on 173.

this is the Grand master himself, Marbles.

and Marbles crossed with my Buff Orp girls gave me this roo....which I've kept from the August hatch.

he's almost 16 weeks old now. getting a bit more handsome, was kind of ugly looking for a while.
