My E.E. are laying pretty consistently, but the one night I left the light on all night, I got no eggs the next day! We don't get real cold here, so the light on the timer from 1 AM to 9 AM seems to be working and gives them the recommended dosage of "14-16 hours" a day.

Just what seems to be working for my girls, I am not saying that it will work for anyone else.

Wow! I will be right back, I gotta go buy some lettuce! Did you shred the lettuce or just give them leaves or put the whole head in a "happy hen ball"?

I had heard (for humans at least) that Iceberg Lettuce has little or no nutritional value. Perhaps it is the added water intake? I don't think my hens drink enough water! I am always refilling and refreshing the waterers. It is SO dry here!

My hens get romaine almost every day, since we buy it by the case for our reptiles. When I first started feeding it to them, i tore each leaf up into little bit-sized pieces, convinced they were too delicate to eat it any other way I finally got tired of doing that, and now just throw a whole head in their run and they completely demolish it! They love it!

The statement about "global warming" was intended as a joke! Got a big laugh out of some bumper stickers I noticed on many vehicles on my visit to Alaska last Summer- "Alaskan's For Global Warming!" At any rate, I am thankful for the fresh eggs I have been getting whatever the reason. I just can't bring myself to eat the "pale-yellows" from the grocery store!!

I feed them romaine lettuce in a suet feeder. They love it! You can get them from walmart.
Here is a picture I took of the EE hens (I believe one is an americana) eating out of one for my project. Sadly,I had to get rid of most of them.
