The EE braggers thread!!!

Love my EE chickens. I have had them for 45 years and so far been a very hardy chicken. The kids always like to see the different colored eggs pink.brown, green , blue and a gray one too. A lot of mine blend in the dirt color real well and the hawks dont bother them. And they are really smart when it comes to preditors They come to the house. The rhode island reds seen to jump into the coyettos mouths and wave good bye like their going on vacation. These marans are getting smarter with each new generation. I think the chicken massicar has taught them dogs aren't so friendly.
I had to laugh when I was at the Stockton chicken show a couple years ago. Went to see the Amerauanas First place hen, had the prettiest pink egg in her cage with her. LOL

But I understand the Amerauanas idea. it is like a paint and a quarter horse The two assocaition were formed for solid horses and colored horses which I thought was a great idea. But they messed that up now with Quarter horse can be any color.

Amerauanas keep up the good work I'll take then mis-colored chickens to add to may flock anytime.
I have 4 Amerauanas I bought blue eggs and hatched them Got 2 cockeles 2 pullets, Guess you would call one the blue cockells a EE he has no beard yet They blacks and blues Should be interesting when they are old enough to lay and breed.

Of I am not interested in showing just pretty eggs.

My girls are from Meyer, I have pics posted of them earlier in this thread, (have no idea what pages). I ordered 25 got 26, 2 were DOA one died after a day all the rest were healthy and thrived. One turned out to be a beautiful roo. I received a great variety of color and all beautiful (but I could be a little prejudiced) Some of the girls started laying at 16 wks and many under 20 wks so far all blue and green eggs some are still pullet eggs the ones that have gotten full size are lg or extra lg. All including the roo have great personalities, they eat from my hand follow me like a pack of puppies, come to be petted, take turns sitting in my lap, shoulder, or if I am bent over doing something on my back.

Meyers was very easy to deal with, always friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

The fact that she lays a olive egg, means that she carries both the blue egg and brown egg gene . So somewhere in her genetic makup there is a brown egg gene bird.
Olive eggs are wonderful !

Yep. This is correct. If you want blue eggs you need to start with blue egg layers. Trying to lighten up an olive layer is a real uphill battle and an unnecessary one. Enjoy her olive eggs! More colors means a more interesting egg basket.

BTW to breed for a more blue egg layer from a green egg layer you would breed to a white egg layer since the blue gene is dominant. You would be more likely to carry the blue gene forward not the brown (unless your white egg layer is also carrying a brown egg gene somewhere in their makeup).

Awesome 80 yesterday. In one weeks time we had a 112 degree shift in weather temps from our low of the week to the high. We had a record snow fall in one day of 27 inches, two blizzards and a low temp of -32 and a high of 80 at the end of the week. Gotta love Oklahoma weather!!!!! lol

By week I mean 7 consecutive days not ness. mon-sun

How is it in your area?

INCONSISTANT like almost everywhere. Two weeks ago it was balmy and I was outside sunbathing in the garden. Now the it is cold, grey, damp with snow on the mountaintops. Raining on and off which is very unusual at this time of year. Before last year there was a three year spell with NO rain. Of course I love the rain for my gardens but not my body.

My new chicks are here. Some are being sold. 10 EE, 5 gold spangled hamburg, 5 red polish and 8 of my brabanter, welsummer, EE and dominique mixes. ha ha

I love WARM rain. Here it is all or nothing very wet, then very dry and hot. (though probably not to the degree of the desert!) I live in eastern OK also called green country, it is really pretty here w/ lake, rivers, hills, trees, grass etc... but western OK is like a whole different state, red, scrubby, plateaus, much more "deserty" beautiful in it's own right, but I would never trade green for it!!!!!

Is the iris in your avatar one you have grown? I have the same color iris in my yard.

Time for a few pictures of my babies. These should be better and I will try again later. The ees ones are striped and also two yellow ones.
Mom is my surprise Showgirl who takes her job seriously but I think that there are too many for her.

Showgirl PrimaDonna was not having anything to do with her man, so I put her to work elsewhere.
