The EE braggers thread!!!

Thanks flower, where in the Mojave are you from, if you don't mind me asking? I'm from Lancaster..these chicks were from a farm in Antelope Acres. I've also got some red sex links but I'm more excited about the EE's

These chicks like to dive-bomb into and onto each other and their personalities are quite individual..

Oh sweet. I am not aware of that farm. I live in Ridgecrest and purchased my EEs from IDEAL. I had wanted a few other chicks that I knew that they had.

And I wanted to tell you that EE crossed with Red Star Sex Link made a beautiful mix of Olive Eggers for me. Around here Lancaster is the next biggest shopping area to Bakersfield. There is very limited shopping here in Ridgecrest besides the Internet. Hence my fave shopping is the Internet. Drat !

I don't know if I will be able to keep the roosters. I've got a lot of neighbors..even though I'd like to get some crosses because those would be free chicks. Since there seems to be no way of guessing the sex of the EE's at this point, I'm counting on the red sex links. The chick in the first pic is very docile compared to the other three, but they're always freaked out when I try to touch them. Will this get better, and how much/what kind of interaction should I have with them to get them used to me?

It is hard to say just what you should do but my first idea is just act like you feel. I pick mine up when ever I am adding to the feed supply or checking up on them. Have you raised chickens before ? Also I garden and am outside digging and put the babies outside in the sun when the days are warm. And I read BYC and get ideas from others. BTW how many chicks do you have and have you asked your neighbors what they feel about you having chickens and what about roosters. Ask them about the roosters crowing before you have trouble with the city asking you to comply with the "rules". And what are they "rules". California City will fine you $$$$ for having roosters if the neighbors complain.

There are actually alot of empty houses in my neighborhood but I will probably have to give away the roosters when the time comes. Our lot is quite big, but still I don't want people complaining. I have 8 chicks in all, 4 of them red sex links. Some roosters are noisy but the one that my dad had several years back was not...it crowed only in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. The hens were noisier! lol
I also pick up the chicks whenever I am changing their water or adding feed. I guess it will just take time.

I copied this graphic from someone else on this website (and didn't keep the credits because I wasn't really intending to use it ~ so if it is yours know I'm not taking credit for it) just because it helped me so much and I wanted to keep it. So.... it depends on the genetics........

Hope this is helpful! Or they could have the other parent egg dominant and give you brown eggs as the F1!! I have a hen like that. Apparently the blue gene is closely linked to a pea comb... which I have found to be true so far for my birds.
