The EE braggers thread!!!

Yup! Just another bonus, IMO.

If you used Golden Cuckoos then after some selective breeding you could even have chicks that would be sexable as they hatch! Golden Cuckoo males have a much lighter down color than their female counterparts.

K, I know I've posted a lot of little Augusta Gloop lately, but she's getting more and more beautiful every day - and looking more and more like my preferred type for "North American Quechua" with her sleek and sporty body shape and stunningly wild color/pattern. She and her sister, Peanut, are from Belt Hatchery. I had purchased six "Ameraucana" peeps - 2 butterballs, 2 light chipmunks and 2 dark chipmunks - which were raised by a broody Cuckoo Marans. Unfortunately, only two peeps made it out of peephood due to the cats being a little overzealous in their duties.

She's about 17 weeks old now...

Peanut is behind her here. Peanut just looks a bit too "commercial" to me, with a slightly larger size and more plain coloration...

The cats won't even consider flexing on the chickens, or even peeps in the brooder, but peeps running around wild are apparently fair game...

BTW, they're currently running around in the garden for the Winter (fertilization and Integrated Pest Management), thus all the torn-up cardboard and junk in the photos. Next time, I'll be sure to pick up the cardboard before turning them loose.

Nice white EE. One of my four looks something like the white one, and she lays a blue egg.

Mine has a bare place on her back and needs to have one of those saddles I've seen on here. I think she does not resist hard enough.

Nice flock MM, I do like the EE in the foreground too. I have a little mutt hen that is crossed with a GLW hen and either an EE or a BA rooster, make that two, both have the GLW coloration but neither have muffs. They both are laying now, one lays eggs that resemble the BA color and the other is darker with almost a blueish tint in the right light. I kinda have a rainbow flock and some barnyard mixed birds.

I'm gonna make some Barred Rock EE mixes. I'm gonna use a White EE Rooster and Barred Rock Hens

The white is probably dominant.

So if the white is dominant, I wouldn't get any barred offspring?

Only the male chicks will be barred, the females will either be all white or all black, depending on whether or not the white is dom/rec.

The best thing to do if you want barred EEs is to use a barred or Cuckoo male.
