I see you have 2900 posts so you well know the issues between Ameraucana, Arucana, and EE's. Feelings run hot sometimes between the 3 camps, well add to that another camp NAQ.

The original blue egg laying chickens imported from South America for the worlds fair were called Quechuan chickens, which hatcheries named Ameraucana when they started selling them. Then a group of people wanted to breed specific colors of chickens that lay blue (not green) eggs, they worked hard on those colors they wanted to breed true and when they appealed to the chicken standards association they too named their chickens Ameraucana. This is why a lot of hatcheries call their EE, Ameraucana.

The EE were from people wanting to have the blue or green eggs, but wanting other traits or colors so combining a chicken w/ a blue gene w/ almost anything else getting what we traditionally think of as EE.

But now a third NAQ is a colored egg laying chicken that preferably is as close to the original quechua that was imported from SA. It shouldn't have the large european influance that a lot of the EE's have, but reflect the South American heritage that has been breed thin is some.

That is a very simplified brief explanation, in which great effort was made not to step on any toes. Hope I succeeded.

If you read from the middle of the post and more you will learn more. Some feel that the South American Quechuan is the source of blue egg layers. Other have documented that those birds are descendant from birds brought from Europe and beyond to SA by the folks who tried to conquer the "NATIVES" or better know as colonists. Anyway the conversations smack of feelings that mock religious and political evoke.
