It's a turquoisey sort of shade to my eyes. I agree, hard to describe.

Big Question


I have a EE rooster that is blue with red leaking from the neck and wings.
There are several different colored hens in the pen with him, Silver, Gold-n-Black, and White/orangie-red.
I hatched out 9 chicks from this pairing, three turned out solid blue, all three are pullets. Now for the question: Will they develope the red leakage?

Just curious does anyone know someone looking for roos that carry the blue gene. The lady I bought my cute little roo today told me she is gonna be giving her 4 month old roos to a trapper and they are gonna be used for bob cat bait.

It just breaks my heart. I think she has decided this because, she hasn't found people who want to buy them quick enough. She was also selling pullets. They are actually Ameraucanas but, I figured people who are interested in EEs might be interested in these guys. I just bought a roo from her because, I thought it would be good for my egg color because, I have EEs. I would buy more but, I just don't have the housing for them. Anyway they are beautiful if anyone is interested let me know and I will tell you her web address. I would put this in the auction but, I really can't because, these aren't my birds. I just can't fathom them having to come to such an end after their life has just begun.

I just spent last1/2 hour watching my 25 EE 21 week olds arrange and re-arrange themselves on the roost. A lot of coos, chortles and occasional screech when top cockeral decided to walk across everyone's back. I put up a new roost linking the older roosts, it passes in front of a safe window (high up and hardware clothe heavy). Apparently the change caused a stir.

About 6-7 of my girls (out of 22) are laying, so far 2 olive eggers, 1 pink and the rest shades of blue-green. I love these guys, they are really mellowing out since starting to lay and getting in to their run daily.

I love these guys. To boot, I took some eggs in to work, brown from production reds, white from bantams, pink, olive, and blue from the EE and my work folks went crazy for the colored eggs! They were amazed. Number one question, "do they taste different?". Yes, I say better than store bought, they all are better! Had to share with fellow EE lovers.

I never had had marans roos before and have a silly question. I have EE's, araucanas, and ameraucanas hens and if I put a marans roo over them, do their eggs stay blue or are they olive eggers????

They all become Olive Eggers.


The Araucana x Marans will be the best though, they're meaty if you're into eating your own, and they're awesome with their tufts (not all of course though) and about half the pop will be tailed, half rumpless but with the occasional little tail feather sticking out. I clip those though, as they look UGLY that way. Also, Wheaten Marans x Araucanas make some awesome colors.
