Please disregard my comment!Yesterday my Son came by to check on me and saw my LGD with something in her mouth. Turns out it was a fresh hatched chick. She is OK with grown birds., BUTT for some reason the small ones she wont tolerate.
Dave got the chick from her, just had a scratch on it's hip. It is a nice blue. Anyway he finds the hidden nest, grabs a box and starts catching chicks. Ended up with 14 chicks out of 16 eggs. I had just gotten 5 Swedish Flower chicks in the mail Tuesday, so I lit up the brooder pen next to them, get them some water and feed and turned on the heat lamp and we put the new kids in. They started eating and drinking after all of 2 minutes. On my way out to check on them in a few.
The new babies.
They already have puffy cheeks, at least I think I see muffs and beards compared to the Swedish Flower Hen chicks.
For comparison. The Swedish Flower Hen chicks.
