The EE braggers thread!!!

I have a question I been wanting to ask. I have 3 hens that where sold to me as Ameraucanas from a breeder. I have my doubts about that. I'm thinking EE. My question is besides color what is the main way to spot the different traits? I was scanning the Ameraucana thread but they are not friendly for the most part about EE's. At the point of being hostile at times. So I thought I would ask here first. All lay blue eggs

For The Above Post: This won't let me quote.

You have EE'S. The main difference is yours do not fit a color or pattern color for the Ameraucana.
See the Ameraucana breeders site. For the standards.

Most people don't know the difference betwixted the two Ameraucan or Easter Egger.

Kassandra:
I had some EE's that went retro on the feather do's I culled them.

Shirly's feathers swirled around her head. Pardon the pile of lumber. We where remodeling the house and building a coop

Lisa's did a swirl around her neck and base of tail. Twisted Sister Had the swirl as well as scissor beak.
I had them on lock down to see who was laying and who wasn't.
All where suppose to be Ameraucana's. I think too much inbreeding happened.
I didn't get any more chicks from that breeder.
Out of the 8 pullets I got from him. I kept 2.
Yes they where laying but I didn't want to add them to my breeding flock.

Thanks I didn't think they where true Ameraucans. They looked too much like my known EE's lol

That first one with the penciled pattern on her is beautiful. Thanks for the pictures.

Thank you Kassaundra and Aoxa for the peacomb pics. That really helps, the drawings just don't do it justice. Now I know what I am looking for.

The picture from Aoxa is a true pea comb. On Kassaundra's beautiful birds the combs are typical of EEs which are a modified pea comb since they are a mix. When mixing a straight or any other comb with a pea comb you will get a rose, cushion, or any other type of modified pea type. And you are correct the photographs are much better than drawings if you are not used to looking at different types of combs.

Ok finally got pictures first the new babies, sorry about the red light messing with the colors

Ok now for Illia
I know for sure I have 2 roosters, the dark guys with the red patches and black manes are definitely male.....

I think the gray headed one with tan AND brown lacing is a female, also think the black and white 1 is a hen...... but this guy is puzzling at first I thought definitely male now I ain''t so sure, smaller feet and legs, BTW they changed color from yellow to light gray, the comb is actually pinky not reddish but more so than the other 2 but no where near the 2 definite boys, also the saddle feathers hackles are not pointed?????? HELP

Now the tail picture shows a pointy pattern, but if you look close its actually the pattern making it look pointy, not the feather the tips are rounded
Now the others the black and white clean faced chick most likely my SLW cross baby

Ok now the Tan and gray with lacy light brown feathers on the wings

They are almost 8 weeks old, come Monday they will be........ PLEASE tell me I have 3 girls???????????? praying so but if the white and gray one is a male he's staying as my replacement roo for my EE girls next year anyway...... but so want it to be a hen...... TYVM Kim

I see girls yes but the last whitish one, the photos I can't tell much with, so it's up to you to inspect and tell yourself. Pick him/her up, inspect the feathers on the back (part the wings doing this) and look around, see any that are glossy, pointed and/or with a toothy edge? Glossiness and perhaps even a different color are the main things to look for. Those are the actual saddle feathers, they'll be just babies. The curving feathers going down the tail base are not real saddle feathers, at this age they're just little things. I see some on your definite red shouldered male. If you don't see such on the white one in question, it's a girl.
