I was thinking of crossing my EE rooster on a brahma hen, opinions? If I bred my Light Brahma rooster to an EE hen, what could I get?
I think you're right. My understanding is that there are only two actual egg colors, white and blue (the color is all the way through the shell). The brown color is actually a coating on the egg. When you break one open, it's white on the inside. That's why they mix like that--it's a brown wash over blue giving you green. From what I have read, crossing two breeds that lay different colored eggs generally results in a sort of mix between those colors. So, brown x blue = green, green x brown = dark green, green x dark brown (like Welsummer) = olive. Do you have a chicken that lays pink eggs? That is a rarity for sure, I'd like to see them if you do! 'Pink' eggs I think are pretty much just a variation of brown, so I would guess if you crossed a pink egger with a brown egg breed the offspring would probably lay a regular brown egg.
Whoops, forgot to quote. This is for Summer98![]()
