Splash if a dilution of the Blue feather gene. With a black rooster it will be difficult to determine the colors of his chicks unless you know what colors the four grandparents are and as we know EEs have many different breeds and colors added to their mix. White actually hides some colors as does black but there are also two copies of each gene and it get more complicated when you do not know if the gene is recessive or dominate.

But I can say that your wheeten hen mixed with black rooster turns out blue chicks because blue is also a version of black. And the red is passed on form the wheeten hen. The chicks could be called blue wheeter

I don't think Peaches looks like a splash either but when I breed her with a black rooster I get blue babies so I thought she has to be a splash? Is there any such thing as a red splash?

There are splash wheaten too. If your roo is a blue/black/ splash type of blue you could get some. I was looking close at mine and she has some splashing in the blue, maybe that is what she is. Sent from my Motorola Electrify using Tapatalk 2

This post makes me think that with a little bit of genetic knowledge many different "names" could be used to lable our birdies.

How can we tell leakage from splashing ? Personally I like to learn but do not get to worked up over the small stuff. And I am not pointing my finger at anyone, but I also have a bad taste in my mouth after particiaption on the Ameraucana and Marans threads.

If I have beautifully colored and healthy birdies then I am happy with the little buggers.

The birds are gorgeous, the subtle greens, greybrowns and blues in the background make a perfect frame for the birdies. Could I use your picture to have my sister make a painting for me ?

You could send a copy via e-mail and see if I could move it to my desktop so I can print it. This is only for my personal use. And please note that I live in a very brown atmosphere. We do have trees and cactii but not like the places where there is humidity. We have no moisture besides our hoses. And so far I do not have any birdies that look like yours although I hope to in the future.

Yeah, but rooster croqws annoy me to death . So, as long as Mr. Cali doesn't crow, he's a keeper!

rooster crows annoy me too...But then I got this one who actually crows quietly and he sounds like he is far away. I got lucky...

Same here. I won't even go on those two threads anymore. Not enjoyable at all. And the marans thread is "owned" by a few and all they talk about is the weather, their hatches or the perfection of their chickens. If someone else posts something it is usually ignored.
