The EE braggers thread!!!

Found them!

My roo Candy Cane please excuse his molt

Here's a white cockerel (he is about the same age in this pic as the other 2 are now)
They are soo pretty. It just amazes me how many different colors chickens can be. Those spurs are huge on candy cane. I can't wait til my chickens all have chicks. It will be quite interesting what comes out of it all.

Thank you. I keep waiting for him to trip on those spurs! He is a very sweet roo & the young white one seems to have his sweet nature. Good luck on raising babies. This is the first time I have ever had a broody hen and I am loving it.

I will check back here more often. Good night all! and thanks for the help.

That is really interesting, when people say that their chickens stop laying for the winter times I was thinking that they halt altogether. Raising chickens is quite an experience. I must say that I love my EE as well, she is quite the bird of the bunch. I am also hoping that all my chickens start laying before the fall. If they don't, does that mean they won't start til spring?

I'm remembering back to the mixed farm chickens we had when I was a kid. We always had eggs throughout the winter, just not so many. Haven't had a winter yet with my current flock, but the neighbor continues to get some eggs over the winter, including some from her EEs. These are dual purpose hatchery hens though, bred for laying ability.

Some hertitage breeds may be more sensitive to the light cycles and stop all together, as may individual hens of any breed. Age will also be a factor.

Hope your girls give you some eggs this fall! I have mine outside all day in hopes of influencing egg production for the younger pullets. The biggest drop in production lately is due to an epidemic of broodiness. One full time broody Australorp and two wanna-be broodies (including my EE) that spend about half a day on the nest. The sad thing is I don't even have a rooster!! The Australorp sits all day and night with no eggs. I know there are things to do to break her of this, but letting nature take its course, for now.

I have not been on here in a while. This is one active thread!!! If you don't mind I have 2 EE's that are about 15 weeks old and I can't tell their sex. I really want one to be a pullet but am doubtful. Here are pics of them & their mom.

Here's the one on the right up close:

Here's the one on the left:

And here is the one I think is Mom

I would greatly appreciate any help. I think if anyone can tell me its the dedicated EE thread people

I think you have two pullets based on the comb size. By 15 weeks a cockerel would have a much redder and more prominent comb, looking more like the comb of your older hen (who is an unusual female EE color and very pretty by the way!).

I have 9 little pullet chicks I got at the feed store at a week old. They're 7 weeks old now and are moving out to the grow out pen tomorrow! They're either all girls, or a chance there's 1 boy(I have my suspicions!). Hoping for a boy actually, but I dont think I'll get it.. I'm so used to being overrun with boys when I hatch here, It was nice to actually go out and buy sexed chicks! And at only $2/each!!

I have quite a few EE chicks hatched from my own birds, but here are some pictures of the parents. Every single one of my girls lays a blue egg. Not even close to green.

One of the eggs in the corner. They all lay exactly the same shade. I haven't had more than 3 eggs in one day, so maybe one is still yet to lay. They were born March 3rd.

I hope they are both girls. I thought by now they would have the straight pointy saddle feathers & neck feathers of a cockerel if they were indeed boys.

And I did not realize the hen was an unusual color and thanks I think she's pretty too. She's very sweet but skittish. I want to breed to get away from the usual red color and would love to figure out how to breed for the white Oreo look with black legs but I don't know if that is even possible.
