What are the biggest blue, blue/green egg layers you have or have seen? We started with some EE and some Wheaten & Blue Wheaten Ameracunas. We decided to not continue the Ameracunas but used both the Wheaten and Blue Wheaten roosters over the EE. That introduced some blue into the wild look of the EE and substantially increased the size of the birds.
We are also making some olive eggers and have placed a splash marans rooster over the EE. Of course this has increased size as well. None of the OE are mature so not sure what egg color will be or what ultimate size will be but I believe larger than the EE.
Now I am wondering how to further increase the size of the EE but keep or improve on the blue color of the eggs? Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have some lavender Ameracauna as well and they do lay the prettiest blue egg of all we have seen. However they are way too small for our personal tastes. We will likely cross some with the EE to see if the egg color improves but that will sacrifice size I am sure. Right now all I can think to do is cross the Wheaten rooster back over the new EE, some will be his offspring. Does anyone know if legbars are larger than Ameracuans? I would guess not since they were crossed with leghorns. Is the best path to just hatch the largest eggs then just breed the largest birds? Or is there another large breed to bring into the mix? Thanks in advance for any of your shared thughts.
