The EE braggers thread!!!

Wow that's impressive Flowerbh! I have one that started laying around the 1st of September and laid one nearly every day, but for some reason she abruptly stopped and I haven't had one from her in nearly 3 weeks...I hope everything's okay, one of my cochin bantys did the same thing and died from being egg bound a few days ago...
Is she molting?

I don't think so, she is just 7 months old, fat and fluffy like usual. She went through a juvenile molt at around 4 months. Do you know what is happening? She looks and acts the same as she was when she was laying. I thought maybe it was because the days are shortening but my other girls are still laying...

Can she be laying somewhere else? In the woods? Someone on this post had a hen do that so they followed her and found she had been laying her eggs in a box on top of an old refrigerator in her garage! I'm convinced my brown leghorn is laying somewhere. She just lays them where ever she is. The others come back to the nest every day. She's not broody is she?

Could she be laying somewhere else?

I don't know but if she isn't acting sick and it has been a couple of months I wouldn't think she would be egg bound or internal laying I think she would have died of that already. You can put a medical glove on and gently insert your finger(s) into the vent and see if you can feel an egg, you might need to do it for a couple of days just to be sure.

I don't think she's laying somewhere else, I have been looking for days. All my chickens live inside my privacy fence, which covers about 3/4 of an acre. So it's big, but probably not big enough to hide a dozen bright green eggs in...I don't think she's broody either, as she doesn't sit in one place very long. I will see if I can feel anything tonight, what a mystery...I certainly miss those pretty eggs lol but mostly I hope she's okay, she's a lovely little lady.

If she is laying elsewhere there may not be a pile of eggs, an egg eater may be cleaning them up at night.

I have to admit I did not think about something eating them at night. We have had very little in the way of predator problems, you see, but it would be very easy for a skunk or a snake to get in the fence and eat 'em...I will try to spy on her this weekend and see what results...thanks for the help!

Yeah! I will do that too. I can't lock her up in the coop, it's not really designed for that. It hardly qualifies as a coop anyway, but I have a hole in my rabbit hutch I can keep her in for a day or two. Do you think she would get stressed/lonely in there since it's unfamiliar and not lay anyway?
