and disappointed...My EE Roo Prometheus has started attacking my dogs...My dogs are trained NOT to hurt the chickens and don't stand up to the rooster...Anybody have any ideas on what to do. Thinking I'll have to replace him, cause I have new EE babies growing up. I'm sure one is a roo(there's always a roo in a hatch LOL)
He's so pretty and was sweet, he's good to his ladies. Since I whooped up on him he leaves me alone...so sad cause he use to eat out of my hand and stand on my foot and was such a good boy. I can't have him hurting my dogs..I guess I trained them to well....
I don't feel alone then hah! I'm excited for my other 2 EEs to start laying as well, but they're about a month and a half behind Paprika. I'm hoping each one lays a different color but we'll see
Congrats! I had one that hatched in Feb and didn't start laying till Nov or Dec. She was low man on the totem pole and it was late in the year and the days getting shorter.... just lots of reasons she laid late.
Your girls is SOOOO PRETTY! Do you know what her cross was? SLW in there maybe....
That's a very long time, I find that it's just when you stop thinking about when they're going to lay, that's when they start! I'm just happy the process has started I have 2 Barred Rocks that should start laying soon, and then my other 2 EEs after that ... so still a lot to look forward to
Thank you though! She actually started out as a dark chipmunk? I think that's what I've read people calling it anyways, so the whole transition to black and white wasn't what I was expecting at all. She is beautiful though
Here's a baby picture if you're curious. Not too familiar with SLW so I'm not sure if you could tell parentage from a chick.
Hello everyone, it's been awhile but my EE hen Paprika finally started laying at 32 weeks and 6 days and it's greeen
At this point I'm just so happy she started laying, I had read EEs were late layers but 8 months seems reaaaally late haha. Anyone else have any late layers?
Here's some pictures of her and her egg! So far she's 3 for 3 days!
Really pretty chicken. Love her black beard. I still have an EE not laying(Stella in my avatar), she hatched feb 27. The other EEs (2) lay a blue and a green egg though I havent seen one in about 6 weeks
. Im trying to be patient I know they will start again eventually and one day my late bloomer Stella will give me a colored egg
. Its hard to be patient when you have 12 laying age chickens and only getting 2 eggs a day
We(fam of 5) fight over the eggs every morning lol. But now im an egg snob and refuse to buy store eggs. I just need to keep tellling myself spring will come again.
Quote: What do you eat for breakfast? 2 eggs 5 people no store bought eggs..... 12 pullets is not going to keep you in eggs either. I thought that way too when I first got chickens, but found out you might only get 7-8 eggs a day from 12 pullets.

Over the summer we were getting 10-11 eggs a day so we had more than enough. Once fall came the egg production started to decline so I got some more chicks. Now I need to wait for them to lay. And I plan to get more chicks in the spring and also hatch out my own. As for now I just wait for eggs.
