The Egger Flock Selection Story 2022

Hi everyone! Time for a new update! It’s about 3 weeks now until our chick will hatch! DS was super excited about hatching some eggs at home, so I posted an ad on CL for Easter Egger straight run chicks, and I have 3 people who want them! And a family member wants 6 chicks for a new coop, straight run (said they will eat the roosters if there are more than one).

So in addition to our chick order, yesterday I set a combination of Cream Legbar, Easter Egger, Olive Egger, and Buff Orpington eggs. I will sell the EE/OE chicks, and raise the CL & BO chicks to 6 weeks for my family member. I can keep a CL pullet since they are autosexing, or possibly a BO since I’ve heard the difference in sex is pretty obvious by that age. Luckily the farm where I picked up the extra eggs also said they will take any roosters I can’t find homes for, so worst case I have a place to take any.

DH has temporarily turned my 2-stall garage into a chicken brooder room. We will have 3 brooders set up for all the fluff! I am going to be in heaven. Lol.

Oh that sounds so wonderful!!! All the pretty eggies And so exciting about the new brooder set up!

My eggies hatched! 2 Cream Legbar pullets, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Olive Eggers, & 5 Easter Eggers!

Picked up my order from the local guy. Had to make some switches since storms threw off his hatch. I picked up:
1 Salmon Faverolles
1 French Black Copper Marans
2 Speckled Sussex
1 Welsummer
1 Buff Orpington
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte
2 Easter Eggers
1 Light Brahma

McMurray & Ideal order coming this week! (Ideal order placed after this local hatch was short some that we wanted).

Here are some pics of the new flock members! (I think the Faverolles will stay with me…she’s a cuddler already!)

McMurray order shipped yesterday and was here at noon for pickup! 14 chirping and happy babies!
In the box there were:
2 WTB
2 WTG
2 Welsummer
1 each of EE, Cuckoo Marans, Columbian Wyandotte, Partridge Rock, Buff Orpington, Ancona, Andalusian, & Delaware

They settled in well after eating & drinking.

They got here this morning at 6am! (Post office let us get them early).
