My big girl who is a Columbian Rock has only been laying eggs for 9 days... and I mean 1 egg a day too. Not only that but the last 4 days she has laid double yolk eggs. I'm really impressed with her egg laying prowess! She lets the whole neighborhood know she's laying a good one too, by clucking her lungs out!

My question to my fellow poultry lovers is, is this a common occurance for new layers or certain breeds? It seems exhausting for her, I mean those eggs are twice the size of her first five eggs. Can I expect this to continue?

I have heard from others sometimes a certain hen may do it occasionally thru out her laying cycle and also it might happen close to the end of the hen's productive laying cycle. but I am going on 2nd hand info here....
