NEW EMERGENCY:

~Cochin bantam hen, just turned 1, she is VERY underweight.
~She went broody, and about a week into it she... I don't know, couldn't extend her neck. She cant eat or stand without my help, and she cant bend her head around to preen.
She was/is really weak, and I have to hold her food up to her head so she can eat and drink. Sometimes she'll drink without help, but only if I'm holding her up. She can't stand on her own, but I can tell that she wants to. She tried to hop up on a brick last night to get on the roost, and the momentum carried her straight forward and she almost face-planted in a fresh pile of poop. I gave her some dandelion leaves last night, and an inchworm, and she loved it.
~ Since Memorial Day.
~ She is the only one.
~ I suspects he might have gotten a spinal/neurological injury, maybe from one of the bigger girls trying to chase her out of the box, but she isn't bleeding from anything.
~ I'm feeding her mostly chick starter, I've given her corn a few times and it piqued her appetite.
~ Its on the runny side, but normal other than that. Little stinky broody poops.
~ I gave her some pain relief. Crushed a baby aspirin and dissolved it in a bottle of water, but she didn't really improve.
~ I'll go get a picture of her this morning.
~ She's in a wire rabbit cage. I don't want her sitting in poop, but I'm going to put some sawdust in with her today.
not sure if you got help, but i would give her electrolytes and wet down her food, she sounds very dehydrated
almost like heat-stroke

One of my two day old chicks (I am thinking EE) has not fluffed out yet! He/she is dry, and my older 3 day old is fluffy. Any ideas why?
i would rinse it off with some warm water maybe a little dawn, keep it away from nose/eyes
or leave it it will flake and fluff later

Hey all! I have a very mixed and integrated flock of chickens of all ages. I am feeding them all starter crumbles and fermented starter. I have oyster shell in a different feeder BUT it is accessible to the teenagers and little chicks.

1. Will the teenagers eat the oyster shell? Or is it their instinct not to?

2. I am finding red/maroon poo around the yard and outside the coop! Never seen anything like it! Any ideas what this is about?

Many thanks!
if they dont need the oyster shell they generally wont eat it

crazy!! do you have any berry bushed around? or beets??
i think @casportpony would like to see this image

Okay. I did see a lone louse crawling around on her face yesterday. She's too weak to take a dust bath on her own though, and she can't preen either. :/ I can put a little DE on her neck and back, would that work?

I thinks its more serious than just worms, tbh. I have never seen or heard of a chicken acting like this... Makes me think injury, but she isn't showing any external signs (besides not moving and lack of balance) of one. :barnie
you can wash it with some dawn dish soap, be ready to dry it and get it warm after, the dawn will help get rid of the mites

This morning I went to let my girls out, and my Mille Fluer Bantam didn't run out with the flock. She was still roosting and essentially limp. I picked her up, and her head was floppy. She was coo'ing. She is normally not one to be held. She gave no resistance and acted like she couldn't control her neck. I brought her inside immediately and put her in our hospital room. At first she wouldn't move minus her neck flopping. But she has tried to get up and move sometimes with success and sometimes just to fall over. I gave her water with electrolytes. It's been hot the last few days though she has had access to water. I gave her plenty of food (Scratch and Peck). And I recently put in a soupy egg in a dish for her. I watched her eat the S&P. I dipped her beak in the water and egg. She is still coo'ing and attempts to move. Sometimes she looks fine. Other information about her is that she is about a year old and laying. It appears that she laid at least yesterday if not today. My boyfriend normally collects the eggs so I am not really sure if this egg was from yesterday. I smelled her breath, it's not sour. Her crop isn't full. She was fine yesterday. I'm at a loss.

So my chicken has eaten until her crop has been full and now she is jerking her head to the side. Please please please do you have any information? Is she having a stroke? I know this the wrong feed to post this question on but I have no other place to put it. I need information on this fast! She's been doing it for the entire day. I'm beginning to get extremely concerned. Could she be having the hiccups? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

She has bubbles in her eyes! Like if someone blew Bubbles and they landed in her eyes.
bubbles could also indicate bloackage in her sinus, which could lead to an infection

I don't have an avian vet, and I don't think my family would spring for the idea of bringing a chicken to the vet :( Is there anything I can do to help her at home? If I must, I'll find a way to get her to the vet.
what was the issue? i dont think i remember seeing it>

Help! I recently got a black silkie from a man who breeds them. When we got home I noticed that it had matted feathers on its wings, which is strange because silkies feathers fly free, so they have feather fur! Also every time we touch its wings, it chirps loudly, not its usual sounds. I think it might have been in a fight when it was younger. We got it at 4-5wks old. It lives inside, since she's too little to introduce to my 4 big hens. I don't know if anything is wrong, but I'm still worried! Please help!!
it might have a few 'flat' feathers i wouldnt worry about it too much

View attachment 1032973 It looks like that on the other wing too
just keep an eye on it, it looks fine
