OH, Thank you everyone. I am glad I am not the only one who sees it

. Yes he is a Buff Orpington, 5mo old. HuestisFarm, your boy def looks like he has BO in him. The color is almost identical isnt it? The yellow feet are the give away for being a cross tho. LOL He even looks like he has kind eyes. OML,

SterlingAcres, we got all of the BO's thru the local feed store.
Gritsar, that is exactly what I tell him

I read on here that you should not let any roosters mount any hens when you are in the yard.

I haven't seen that anywhere on the BYC. Why not? Does it change the dominance dynamic between you and the rooster?

.

He's lovely. I wouldn't worry about stopping him mounting the hens. Don't let him mount you or bully you, but breeding is in his contract.

I've read here that in order to make yourself the Top Roo, you have to keep the other roos in their place and not let them mount "your women". That's what the top roo in a flock does - keep the subordinant roos from getting to the hens.

Did you see this allchookup? I know I have read it somewhere also. I do not want to have any problems with the roosters we are keeping, LOL. But I havent read anything about letting your ENFORCER help you...

Thanks, Buff & roosmom. That makes sense. Oddly enough, it's never happened when I am around the chickens. Maybe my natural "alpha-male" aura just permeates everything.

Whoops - Slipped into a "joebryant" moment, there.

Yes, for roos that already accept you as the alpha roo it's not necessary. But it is a way to establish yourself as alpha roo with an uppity young roo that thinks he's the alpha. You don't have to do it forever, just till you are sure he understands.
