The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Owls are stealthy predators, for sure, but they are mostly nocturnal. Where did it get your turkey? I know that sometimes, they'll hunt at dusk or slightly before if it's very overcast and dark like it often is in winter. Did you see it or just deduce it was an owl from the evidence?

Inside there 3-4ft tall covered pen. I forgot the door open.

Oh, crap. Gotta remember to close those doors, but we're all human. There has been more than one hen left out overnight when she didn't come with the others on a rare occasion when we didn't do our regular head count. DH left open a pop door once and I found all of Isaac's hens outside in the pen when I went to let them out. We were just lucky. In all the years we've had birds, a few slip-ups are just bound to happen, I guess.

ETA: I gave my D'Anver hen, Aimee, four eggs today. Two are D'Anver eggs, one for sure is her own. One is a BR from Atlas's coop, not sure whose. The last one is an experiment. It belongs to Sammie Jo. That means that IF it is fertile, it is out of Deacon. He's never fathered a chick and I'm curious if he's even fertile, with his mother's and his own weirdness. Sammie Jo looks like a pure Delaware and Deacon is 1/2 Delaware so it may come out looking like a Dellie chick. We will see.

And I am stitching the binding on the back of this quilt. Ladyhawk decided she liked the second one I made better so this one will be for sale. It's crib size.

Getting caught up...... loved the pics of the quilts and of you and your son. Oh, and of Rachel's babies of course. They are so beautiful Cyn!

Did Tom make it back ok from Knoxville? My cousin is stranded there and doesn't know when she will be leaving. :(

No, he has to leave tomorrow morning! Ack! It will be the coldest morning of the season so far. I think the next day may be even colder, but he has to drive along the river corridor and that scares me. THIS is why we got our AWD Honda instead of settling for front wheel drive. It will be a test, for sure.

I agree, Rachel's babies are gorgeous. Atlas is doing great. A lady on a FB online yard sale who got BR eggs from me just PM'd me to let me know that ALL sixteen are developing. WTG, my man !

Oh, I apologize I thought he was leaving today for Knoxville. This morning about 9:00 my cousin posted a video of it snowing like the dickens in Knoxville and as a matter of fact I texted her a few minutes a go and it is still snowing off and on. I will say a prayer that your husband and son make it safely to Knoxville and that your husband returns home safely as well.

Atlas is quite the stud muffin isn't he? I cannot wait to get my hands on some of his babies/eggs. I see photos of chicks that members of our area BYC club post all of the time and they just don't have the look of "robust health" that Atlas' babies possess.

No need to apologize. My exclamation point in the first sentence was to signify my worried state over that, sorry if it seemed like I was yelling or something. I am scared to death about that trip. I'm staying home to take care of the birds and I won't be able to settle down until he calls me. Then, I'll start to worry all over again when he leaves the airport to come back home again. He'll be dog tired by then, poor man.

I agree about Atlas's little sons and daughters. They sure seem like chunky monkeys, though this horrible weather has kept them mostly inside since they were hatched.

Gosh, no it didn't seem like you were yelling. :) I just wasn't paying attention because I thought I read that he had left today to go to Knoxville. I remember you saying that he has to drive along the Ocoee, he doesn't eventually have to get on 1-40 does he? I remember my husband and I drove on I-40 one time just a little north of Knoxville in 13 degree weather after it had snowed the previous day snow and it was a harrowing experience. I swear to Pete, people were driving like it was 80 degrees and sunny! I guess it is all what you are used to......
