The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

That is a beautiful painting.

I'm so glad you had such a lovely Thanksgiving with your son. Things like that are important. He needs to learn to stand up for himself, and hold his ground a little more on things like that. Live and learn.

Ack, just got my internet back after hours of nothing. Would have answered sooner. Yes, I love, love, love the little portrait. It's done with colored pencil markers I think. It joins the pencil drawing of Suede that our member Symphony did for me, the ink drawing of Violet after she passed away from another member named Olivia, daughter of SeaChick(?), my masterpiece beaded Suede on deer hide that Ladyhawk did for me and my oil portrait of Isaac that Tom did for me that hangs beside the bed. I'm surrounded by art, chickens and quilts, what a life!

Ladyhawk sent me two photos of the ex with her new boy toy that were on her FB page and added smileys throwing up, LOL. Oh, my. All I could say to her was "Gawd, he's UGLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" That wench seriously downgraded. He is younger than my son was when she married him almost 20 years ago and not even close to handsome, either. Well, she's no super model, either. I always thought she wasn't very attractive like his other girlfriend he had before her. Before he got stuck in the type job he has, he held black belts in several forms of karate and was quite handsome. This guy is a plate of chopped liver compared to Michael at that age. I never thought the Brits as a whole were very good-looking anyway, but this guy, blech. (yeah, yeah, I know I'm being mean, but allow me to indulge here). But, I guess it was her only offer and she took it. Who knows what is in the mind of a narcissist and a sociopath other than "me, me, me, I, I, etc, etc"

I've been crazy-busy at work and probably will be for the next few weeks. Finally just catching up "some".

I do love those totes but especially the rooster one :) @speckledhen

Speaking of old hens - my oldest 3 girls will be 7 this March. All are still laying as of last season. It will be interesting to see if they continue.

Plus....I'm going to post some of the 23 week olds. It was a nice day today and they came out most of the day. All the photos are from this afternoon.

I didn't see it, but I believe there was an attempted hawk attack a couple of weeks ago and none of the birds would go outside even if I opened the door after that day. I found them all huddling inside in an area as far away from the door as possible. I quit opening it and haven't opened for the last couple weeks as it was cold and windy anyway. Today they came out!

The young'uns haven't started laying yet.

Here are the laced O girls @oldhenlikesdogs

They are some gorgeous birds. :D Love the Orpingtons especially of course. So you have a Dominique rooster but no Orpington?

No orp roo. The chicks I got were all female only by chance.

But I have considered adding a cockerel in the spring once the place I got them from has some excess to deal with. Just not sure I'm going to like integrating a new cockerel into a flock with a presiding roo...not sure how that'l go.

That would probably be a nightmare. Two roosters often isn't a good number as they focus on each other. Multiple roosters keeps the skirmishes more spread out. I personally wouldn't add a second rooster unless you plan to separate out the breeds, or at least rotate which rooster is out with the hens to avoid problems.

Confined birds too will have more problems with multiple roosters. Mine can all get away, and find a patch of area to call their own.
