There is a man here on BYC, that for the most part, I can't stand. He's a self-proclaimed expert. While he's correct on some basic things, for the most part, he's wrong. He only raises jungle fowl, so that's his only point of reference regarding his expertise. All other fowl, in his expert opinion, should conform to his jungle fowl standards of living, and behavior. Unfortunately, that's simply not true. He tends to be a bully as well.

He is an idiot. Lives in calif.

Are we all sure that it's really a man and not just a woman that has resurfaced pretending to be a man? (There have been some pretty "know-it-all" women on byc before....)

That whole demeanor seems to be rampant on forums in general. The beekeeping forums have their share too. But I just think it's forums in general.

Good to have found some folks that are just "real people" to "hang out" with

Great Horny Toads!! A bully on a social forum. Hmmm - none of the men I know would do it that way? What? Sounds like he doesn't know very many men. All of the great men that I have known, including most of the ones in my family, would never speak to somebody that way.

I have spent the last few days preparing for a big party that we have every year, we invite pretty much anybody who wants to come and all of our friends that play music come and get together. But it involves a serious house cleaning, my big one of the year. So I am feeling a little burnt out right now.

I was laughing earlier at my little half-grown chicks with with the Zoomies.

I guess I'm used to men like Ron Ott, Sourland, et al that are nice, decent folk.

Yes, I've been here long enough to have run into quite a few overbearing, self-proclaimed experts. This person is more like their leader.

Someone was talking about their Silkies having trouble cooling down, with this extra hot summer, in their area. The particular person I'm referring to, proclaimed that all these new breeds being developed recently, because of man's desire to play god, has produced some really pathetic chickens, and how terrible that a chicken might have to be hosed down to be able to cool down enough to survive warm weather.

It was funny when a lady I know, informed him that the breed dated back to the late 13th century, and did great in Asia, China, the Netherlands, and other parts where the temps are cold to freezing all year long. He shut up about it. It was then, that I decided to click and ignore his posts.

I made the mistake of unblocking one of his posts, that he posted in response to something I said. That won't happen again.

I know my silkies have a difficult time with high heat and humidity. Two just panted way too fast for my liking. I do let them sit in some sun warmed water to cool off. I've also had a full size chicken or two needing a dunking. In Florida, my silkies had no choice but to live in the shade and never had a problem.

It's not about survival, it's about comfort when I am with them. I can't sit there and watch them pant so hard when a dunk will cool them off. And aren't there breeds created that are cold hardy?

You're right, Getaclue. Silkies are a very old breed.

Seminole, remember I said his whole basis of expertise is Jungle Fowl. Not everyone in the world lives in a hot, humid, jungle. Some people live in very cold, to frozen climates year round. Of course that would have a major impact on livestock breeds, including chickens. That was the point of my female friend pointing it out to him.
