it's actually a good idea to trim tomato plants back a little bit, they grow more dense and will develop plenty more fruit, it's just going to take some time.
One of my dogs would pick tomatoes and eat them once they had ripened if I didn't get to them first. I had to fence my garden to keep the dog out instead of rabbits.

Thanks so much. I left them and just watered and they actually grew back! My bigger ones are big but no flowers. So I got some fertilizer that was 14/14/14 to maybe jump start those flowering. Do you think dogs or rabbits are easier to deal with?

Being that cute, I think you should base your number limit on (sorry) on how many years you have to enjoy them. I figure I have a good 10 years , then iffy. So (sorry) I make sure that I will outlive them (how depressing!)
