The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I'm back to thinking this one is a pullet. It jumped on my knee today because I was sitting in a lawn chair holding Aimee while DH was holding little Jet. Guess it didn't want to be left out. The comb and wattles looked pale today. At 7 weeks old, I should be sure about it, but I'm not. Sigh. If it's a pullet, it looks about as good at this age as the original Stukel Rock hens did!

If that's a pullet, she is a beauty.
Thanks, I agree! It's very broad and tall and the barring is fabulous.

I noticed that both Rocky and Jet tire faster than the other rambunctious Rocks they were hatched with. With their short legs, it takes a lot of energy to keep up with the normal chicks, I'd imagine.

Do you think there are any chicken fortune tellers - that could read toes or something and say if she is a pullet or not? Not knowing can drive you nuts, especially if they keep leaning toward one sex than the other.

Makes it harder to rehome. Folks get a bit testy if you sell them a pullet that turns out to be a cockerel, no matter how challenging the sexing was, I'm sure.

I am still not sure about this barred chick. It's huge, tall, beautiful pullet coloring including super dark leg fronts, but the pink in the wattles is throwing me off. At 7 weeks, shouldn't be there, I wouldn't think. But the legs are not especially thick, but it has long toes. And in these photos, you can see that Jet is a true dwarf-just look at the size difference in the two same age chicks.
