The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Love the pics of your happy flock Cyn.

How are you feeling? I hope you have recovered from your slip in that mud.

Holm, the Buckeyes I hatched for my sister last year came from Minniechickmamma in MN - they are lovely birds (but took a LONG time to start laying!). They were very friendly chicks.
She said they take awhile to start laying but I am fine with that. Any good Heritage breed does. They are so cute!

1mutt, and holm, not only do heritage breeds take longer, but it seems the better the quality the slower the development to POL, and to attain size for butchering. I wait until my Black Australorps are 6 months old before processing too. No, the meat is not tough. It's like more of their resources are dedicated to them attaining size, and when that is reached, then more resources are dedicated to internal development, and attaining bulk.

Dottie may have had a relapse of whatever was wrong with her about a month ago. If it was a stroke, then this is her decline, sadly. Found her standing in front of the big window after everyone else went out, all hunched up. Her eyes appear sunken and I can tell she's lost some weight. Darn it. She's back in Zane's cage with a heat lamp, "doctored-up" water and peace. She is eating some so that's good, but I fear I'll lose this sweetheart soon. Why Dottie first? I adore that girl and so does Tom.

Thanks, I hope so, too. She's standing with her face right in the heat lamp. She was starting to cluck again like she was back to the broody spell that was interrupted when whatever it was happened to her, but she stopped that a couple of days ago, not a good sign, IMO.

Atlas's crew out in the sunshine today.

Below is Ida, who hates the camera, but I loved her bars in this one. She is Tessa's mother, still not sure who is Lizzie's.
